Genesis 15:9[edit | edit source]

Genesis 15:8 Genesis 15:9 (KJV) Genesis 15:10
And he said, Lord GOD, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?
And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.
And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.

Strong's References[edit | edit source]

  • H352 — אַיִל (ʼayil, ah'-yil): from the same as אוּל; properly, strength; hence, anything strong; specifically a chief (politically); also a ram (from his strength); a pilaster (as a strong support); an oak or other strong tree; mighty (man), lintel, oak, post, ram, tree.
  • H559 — אָמַר (ʼâmar, aw-mar'): a primitive root; to say (used with great latitude); answer, appoint, avouch, bid, boast self, call, certify, challenge, charge, [phrase] (at the, give) command(-ment), commune, consider, declare, demand, [idiom] desire, determine, [idiom] expressly, [idiom] indeed, [idiom] intend, name, [idiom] plainly, promise, publish, report, require, say, speak (against, of), [idiom] still, [idiom] suppose, talk, tell, term, [idiom] that is, [idiom] think, use (speech), utter, [idiom] verily, [idiom] yet.
  • H1469 — גּוֹזָל (gôwzâl, go-zawl'): or (shortened) גֹזָלlemma גזָל missing vowel, corrected to גֹזָל; from גָּזַל; a nestling (as being comparatively nude of feathers); young (pigeon).
  • H3947 — לָקַח (lâqach, law-kakh'): a primitive root; to take (in the widest variety of applications); accept, bring, buy, carry away, drawn, fetch, get, infold, [idiom] many, mingle, place, receive(-ing), reserve, seize, send for, take (away, -ing, up), use, win.
  • H5697 — עֶגְלָה (ʻeglâh, eg-law'): feminine of עֵגֶל; a (female) calf, especially one nearly grown (i.e. a heifer); calf, cow, heifer.
  • H5795 — עֵז (ʻêz, aze): from עָזַז; a she-goat (as strong), but masculine in plural (which also is used elliptically for goat's hair); (she) goat, kid.
  • H8027 — שָׁלַשׁ (shâlash, shaw-lash'): a primitive root perhaps originally to intensify, i.e. treble; but apparently used only as denominative from שָׁלוֹשׁ,; to be (causatively, make) triplicate (by restoration, in portions, strands, days or years); do the third time, (divide into, stay) three (days, -fold, parts, years old).
  • H8449 — תּוֹר (tôwr, tore): or תֹּר; probably the same as תּוֹר; a ring-dove, often (figuratively) as a term of endearment; (turtle) dove.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Hebrew (Westminster Leningrad Codex) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • H413 — אֵל (ʼêl, ale): (but only used in the shortened constructive form אֶל ); a primitive particle; properly, denoting motion towards, but occasionally used of a quiescent position, i.e.; near, with or among; often in general, to; about, according to, after, against, among, as for, at, because(-fore, -side), both...and, by, concerning, for, from, [idiom] hath, in(-to), near, (out) of, over, through, to(-ward), under, unto, upon, whether, with(-in).
