Romans 11:3

Romans 11:2 Romans 11:3 (KJV) Romans 11:4
God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,
Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.
But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to [the image of] Baal.

  • G2212 — ζητέω (zētéō, dzay-teh'-o): I seek, search for, desire — of uncertain affinity; to seek (literally or figuratively); specially, (by Hebraism) to worship (God), or (in a bad sense) to plot (against life):--be (go) about, desire, endeavour, enquire (for), require, (X will) seek (after, for, means). Compare πυνθάνομαι.
  • G2379 — θυσιαστήριον (thysiastḗrion, thoo-see-as-tay'-ree-on): an altar — from a derivative of θυσία; a place of sacrifice, i.e. an altar (special or genitive case, literal or figurative):--altar.
  • G2504 — κἀγώ (kagṓ, kag-o'): I also, I too — from καί and ἐγώ; so also the dative case , and accusative case and (or also, even, etc.) I, (to) me:--(and, even, even so, so) I (also, in like wise), both me, me also.
  • G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): and, even, also, namely — apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.
  • G2679 — κατασκάπτω (kataskáptō, kat-as-kap'-to): I dig down under, demolish — from κατά and σκάπτω; to undermine, i.e. (by implication) destroy:--dig down, ruin.
  • G2962 — κύριος (kýrios, koo'-ree-os): lord, Lord, master, sir — from (supremacy); supreme in authority, i.e. (as noun) controller; by implication, Master (as a respectful title):-- God, Lord, master, Sir.
  • G3441 — μόνος (mónos, mon'-os): only, solitary, desolate — probably from μένω; remaining, i.e. sole or single; by implication, mere:--alone, only, by themselves.

  • G4396 — προφήτης (prophḗtēs, prof-ay'-tace): a prophet, poet — from a compound of πρό and φημί; a foreteller ("prophet"); by analogy, an inspired speaker; by extension, a poet:--prophet.
  • G4675 — σοῦ (soû, soo): genitive case of σύ; of thee, thy:--X home, thee, thine (own), thou, thy.
  • G5275 — ὑπολείπω (hypoleípō, hoop-ol-i'-po): I leave behind — from ὑποτρέχω and λείπω; to leave under (behind), i.e. (passively) to remain (survive):--be left.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the — the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.
  • G5590 — ψυχή (psychḗ, psoo-khay'): the soul, life, self — from ψύχω; breath, i.e. (by implication) spirit, abstractly or concretely (the animal sentient principle only; thus distinguished on the one hand from πνεῦμα, which is the rational and immortal soul; and on the other from ζωή, which is mere vitality, even of plants: these terms thus exactly correspond respectively to the Hebrew נֶפֶשׁ, רוּחַ and חַי):--heart (+ -ily), life, mind, soul, + us, + you.
