Luke 16:18

Luke 16:17 [words of Jesus] Luke 16:18 (KJV) [words of Jesus] Luke 16:19 [words of Jesus]
And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.
Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from [her] husband committeth adultery.
There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:

Strong's References
  • G435 — ἀνήρ (anḗr, an'-ayr): a male human being, a man — a primary word (compare ἄνθρωπος); a man (properly as an individual male):--fellow, husband, man, sir.
  • G575 — ἀπό (apó, apo'): from, away from — a primary particle; "off," i.e. away (from something near), in various senses (of place, time, or relation; literal or figurative):--(X here-)after, ago, at, because of, before, by (the space of), for(-th), from, in, (out) of, off, (up-)on(-ce), since, with. In composition (as a prefix) it usually denotes separation, departure, cessation, completion, reversal, etc.
  • G630 — ἀπολύω (apolýō, ap-ol-oo'-o): I release, let go, send away, divorce — from ἀπό and λύω; to free fully, i.e. (literally) relieve, release, dismiss (reflexively, depart), or (figuratively) let die, pardon or (specially) divorce:--(let) depart, dismiss, divorce, forgive, let go, loose, put (send) away, release, set at liberty.
  • G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): he, she, it, they, them, same — from the particle (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons:--her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. Compare αὑτοῦ.
  • G1060 — γαμέω (gaméō, gam-eh'-o): I marry — from γάμος; to wed (of either sex):--marry (a wife).
  • G1135 — γυνή (gynḗ, goo-nay'): a woman, wife, my lady — probably from the base of γίνομαι; a woman; specially, a wife:--wife, woman.
  • G2087 — ἕτερος (héteros, het'-er-os): another, different — of uncertain affinity; (an-, the) other or different:--altered, else, next (day), one, (an-)other, some, strange.
  • G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): and, even, also, namely — apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.
  • G3431 — μοιχεύω (moicheúō, moy-khyoo'-o): I commit adultery — from μοιχός; to commit adultery:--commit adultery.
  • G3956 — πᾶς (pâs, pas): all, the whole, every kind of — including all the forms of declension; apparently a primary word; all, any, every, the whole:--all (manner of, means), alway(-s), any (one), X daily, + ever, every (one, way), as many as, + no(-thing), X thoroughly, whatsoever, whole, whosoever.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the — the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.
