And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.

And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.

But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.

ἔξυπνος δὲ γενόμενος ὁ δεσμοφύλαξ, καὶ ἰδὼν ἀνεῳγμένας τὰς θύρας τῆς φυλακῆς, σπασάμενος μάχαιραν, ἔμελλεν ἑαυτὸν ἀναιρεῖν, νομίζων ἐκπεφευγέναι τοὺς δεσμίους.

- G337 — ἀναιρέω (anairéō, an-ahee-reh'-o): I take up, abolish, murder — from ἀνά and (the active of) αἱρέομαι; to take up, i.e. adopt; by implication, to take away (violently), i.e. abolish, murder:--put to death, kill, slay, take away, take up.
- G455 — ἀνοίγω (anoígō, an-oy'-go): I open — from ἀνά and (to open); to open up (literally or figuratively, in various applications):--open.

- G1198 — δέσμιος (désmios, des'-mee-os): one bound, a prisoner — from δεσμόν; a captive (as bound):--in bonds, prisoner.
- G1200 — δεσμοφύλαξ (desmophýlax, des-mof-oo'-lax): a keeper of a prison, a jailer — from δεσμόν and φύλαξ; a jailer (as guarding the prisoners):--jailor, keeper of the prison.
- G1438 — ἑαυτοῦ (heautoû, heh-ow-too'): himself, herself, itself — from a reflexive pronoun otherwise obsolete and the genitive case (dative case or accusative case) of αὐτός; him- (her-, it-, them-, also (in conjunction with the personal pronoun of the other persons) my-, thy-, our-, your-) self (selves), etc.:--alone, her (own, -self), (he) himself, his (own), itself, one (to) another, our (thine) own(-selves), + that she had, their (own, own selves), (of) them(-selves), they, thyself, you, your (own, own conceits, own selves, -selves).
- G1492 — εἴδω (eídō, i'-do): I know, remember — a primary verb; used only in certain past tenses, the others being borrowed from the equivalent ὀπτάνομαι and ὁράω; properly, to see (literally or figuratively); by implication, (in the perfect tense only) to know:--be aware, behold, X can (+ not tell), consider, (have) know(-ledge), look (on), perceive, see, be sure, tell, understand, wish, wot. Compare ὀπτάνομαι.
- G1628 — ἐκφεύγω (ekpheúgō, ek-fyoo'-go): I flee out, away, I escape — from ἐκ and φεύγω; to flee out:--escape, flee.
- G1853 — ἔξυπνος (éxypnos, ex'-oop-nos): roused out of sleep — from ἐκ and ὕπνος; awake:--X out of sleep.
- G2374 — θύρα (thýra, thoo'-rah): a door, opportunity — apparently a primary word (compare "door"); a portal or entrance (the opening or the closure, literally or figuratively):--door, gate.
