Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.

In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man of the island, whose name was Publius; who received us, and lodged us three days courteously.

οἱ δὲ προσεδόκων αὐτὸν μέλλειν πίμπρασθαι ἢ καταπίπτειν ἄφνω νεκρόν· ἐπὶ πολὺ δὲ αὐτῶν προσδοκώντων, καὶ θεωρούντων μηδὲν ἄτοπον εἰς αὐτὸν γινόμενον, μεταβαλλόμενοι ἔλεγον θεὸν αὐτὸν εἶναι.

- G824 — ἄτοπος (átopos, at'-op-os): improper, unrighteous, perverse — from Α (as a negative particle) and τόπος; out of place, i.e. (figuratively) improper, injurious, wicked:--amiss, harm, unreasonable.

Compare ὀπτάνομαι.
- G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): and, even, also, namely — apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.
- G2667 — καταπίπτω (katapíptō, kat-ap-ip'-to): I fall down — from κατά and πίπτω; to fall down:--fall (down).

- G3195 — μέλλω (méllō, mel'-lo): I am about to — a strengthened form of μέλω (through the idea of expectation); to intend, i.e. be about to be, do, or suffer something (of persons or things, especially events; in the sense of purpose, duty, necessity, probability, possibility, or hesitation):--about, after that, be (almost), (that which is, things, + which was for) to come, intend, was to (be), mean, mind, be at the point, (be) ready, + return, shall (begin), (which, that) should (after, afterwards, hereafter) tarry, which was for, will, would, be yet.
- G3328 — μεταβάλλω (metabállō, met-ab-al'-lo): I change, change my mind — from μετά and βάλλω; to throw over, i.e. (middle voice figuratively) to turn about in opinion:--change mind.
- G3367 — μηδείς (mēdeís, may-dice'): no one, nothing — from μή and εἷς; not even one (man, woman, thing):--any (man, thing), no (man), none, not (at all, any man, a whit), nothing, + without delay.
- G3498 — νεκρός (nekrós, nek-ros'): dead, a corpse — from an apparently primary (a corpse); dead (literally or figuratively; also as noun):--dead.
- G4092 — πίμπρημι (pímprēmi, pim'-pray-mee): I am inflamed, I swell — a reduplicated and prolonged form of a primary ; which occurs only as an alternate in certain tenses); to fire, i.e. burn (figuratively and passively, become inflamed with fever):--be (X should have) swollen.
