Nevertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul.

And because the haven was not commodious to winter in, the more part advised to depart thence also, if by any means they might attain to Phenice, [and there] to winter; [which is] an haven of Crete, and lieth toward the south west and north west.

And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained [their] purpose, loosing [thence], they sailed close by Crete.

ἀνευθέτου δὲ τοῦ λιμένος ὑπάρχοντος πρὸς παραχειμασίαν, οἱ πλείους ἔθεντο βουλὴν ἀναχθῆναι κἀκεῖθεν, εἴπως δύναιντο καταντήσαντες εἰς Φοίνικα παραχειμάσαι, λιμένα τῆς Κρήτης βλέποντα κατὰ λίβα καὶ κατὰ χῶρον.

- G321 — ἀνάγω (anágō, an-ag'-o): I lead up, put to sea, set sail — from ἀνά and ἄγω; to lead up; by extension to bring out; specially, to sail away:--bring (again, forth, up again), depart, launch (forth), lead (up), loose, offer, sail, set forth, take up.
- G428 — ἀνεύθετος (aneúthetos, an-yoo'-the-tos): unsuitable, inconvenient — from Α (as a negative particle) and εὔθετος; not well set, i.e. inconvenient:--not commodious.
- G991 — βλέπω (blépō, blep'-o): I look, see — a primary verb; to look at (literally or figuratively):--behold, beware, lie, look (on, to), perceive, regard, see, sight, take heed. Compare ὀπτάνομαι.
- G1012 — βουλή (boulḗ, boo-lay'): counsel, deliberate wisdom — from βούλομαι; volition, i.e. (objectively) advice, or (by implication) purpose:--+ advise, counsel, will.

- G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): and, even, also, namely — apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.

- G2658 — καταντάω (katantáō, kat-an-tah'-o): I come down, arrive at, reach — from κατά and a derivative of ἀντί; to meet against, i.e. arrive at (literally or figuratively):--attain, come.
- G2914 — Κρήτη (Krḗtē, kray'-tay): Crete — of uncertain derivation; Crete, an island in the Mediterranean:--Crete.
- G3040 — λιμήν (limḗn, lee-mane'): a harbor, port — apparently a primary word; a harbor:--haven. Compare Καλοὶ Λιμένες.
- G3047 — λίψ (líps, leeps): the south-west wind — probably from (to pour a "libation"); the south(- west) wind (as bringing rain, i.e. (by extension) the south quarter):--southwest.
- G3914 — παραχειμάζω (paracheimázō, par-akh-i-mad'-zo): I pass the winter — from παρά and χειμάζω; to winter near, i.e. stay with over the rainy season:--winter.
- G3915 — παραχειμασία (paracheimasía, par-akh-i-mas-ee'-ah): wintering — from παραχειμάζω; a wintering over:--winter in.
- G4119 — πλείων (pleíōn, pli-own): more, greater — comparative of πολύς; more in quantity, number, or quality; also (in plural) the major portion:--X above, + exceed, more excellent, further, (very) great(-er), long(-er), (very) many, greater (more) part, + yet but.
- G4314 — πρός (prós, pros): to, towards, with — a strengthened form of πρό; a preposition of direction; forward to, i.e. toward (with the genitive case, the side of, i.e. pertaining to; with the dative case, by the side of, i.e. near to; usually with the accusative case, the place, time, occasion, or respect, which is the destination of the relation, i.e. whither or for which it is predicated):--about, according to , against, among, at, because of, before, between, (where-)by, for, X at thy house, in, for intent, nigh unto, of, which pertain to, that, to (the end that), X together, to (you) -ward, unto, with(-in). In the comparative case, it denotes essentially the same applications, namely, motion towards, accession to, or nearness at.
- G4458 — -πώς (-pṓs, poce): adverb from the base of πού; an enclitic particle of indefiniteness of manner; somehow or anyhow; used only in composition:--haply, by any (some) means, perhaps. See εἴ πως, μήπως. Compare πῶς.
- G5087 — τίθημι (títhēmi, tith'-ay-mee): I put, place — a prolonged form of a primary (which is used only as alternate in certain tenses); to place (in the widest application, literally and figuratively; properly, in a passive or horizontal posture, and thus different from ἵστημι, which properly denotes an upright and active position, while κεῖμαι is properly reflexive and utterly prostrate):--+ advise, appoint, bow, commit, conceive, give, X kneel down, lay (aside, down, up), make, ordain, purpose, put, set (forth), settle, sink down.
- G5225 — ὑπάρχω (hypárchō, hoop-ar'-kho): I am, exist, am in possession — from ὑπό and ἄρχομαι; to begin under (quietly), i.e. come into existence (be present or at hand); expletively, to exist (as copula or subordinate to an adjective, participle, adverb or preposition, or as an auxiliary to a principal (verb):--after, behave, live.
- G5405 — Φοῖνιξ (Phoînix, foy'-nix): Phoenix — probably the same as φοῖνιξ; Phœnix, a place in Crete:--Phenice.
