Acts 27:19
| ← Acts 27:18 | Acts 27:19 (KJV) | Acts 27:20 → |
|---|---|---|
And we being exceedingly tossed with a tempest, the next [day] they lightened the ship;
|
And the third [day] we cast out with our own hands the tackling of the ship.
|
And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on [us], all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.

Strong's References
- G849 — αὐτόχειρ (autócheir, ow-tokh'-ire): with one's own hand — from αὐτός and χείρ; self-handed, i.e. doing personally:--with … own hands.
- G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): and, even, also, namely — apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.
- G4143 — πλοῖον (ploîon, ploy'-on): a ship, vessel — from πλέω; a sailer, i.e. vessel:--ship(-ing).
- G4496 — ῥίπτω (rhíptō, hrip'-to): I throw, cast, toss — a primary verb (perhaps rather akin to the base of ῥαπίζω, through the idea of sudden motion); to fling (properly, with a quick toss, thus differing from βάλλω, which denotes a deliberate hurl; and from (see in ἐκτείνω), which indicates an extended projection); by qualification, to deposit (as if a load); by extension, to disperse:--cast (down, out), scatter abroad, throw.
- G4631 — σκευή (skeuḗ, skyoo-ay'): tackle, fittings — from σκεῦος; furniture, i.e. spare tackle:--tackling.
- G5154 — τρίτος (trítos, tree'-tos): third — ordinal from τρεῖς; third; neuter (as noun) a third part, or (as adverb) a (or the) third time, thirdly:--third(-ly).
The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:
- G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the — the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.
