Luke 18:25
| ← Luke 18:24 [words of Jesus] | Luke 18:25 (KJV) [words of Jesus] | Luke 18:26 → |
|---|---|---|
And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
|
For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
|
And they that heard [it] said, Who then can be saved?

- G1223 — διά (diá, dee-ah'): through, on account of — a primary preposition denoting the channel of an act; through (in very wide applications, local, causal, or occasional):--after, always, among, at, to avoid, because of (that), briefly, by, for (cause) … fore, from, in, by occasion of, of, by reason of, for sake, that, thereby, therefore, X though, through(-out), to, wherefore, with (-in). In composition it retains the same general importance.
- G1519 — εἰς (eis, ice): into, in, among, till, for — a primary preposition; to or into (indicating the point reached or entered), of place, time, or (figuratively) purpose (result, etc.); also in adverbial phrases:--(abundant-)ly, against, among, as, at, (back-)ward, before, by, concerning, + continual, + far more exceeding, for (intent, purpose), fore, + forth, in (among, at, unto, -so much that, -to), to the intent that, + of one mind, + never, of, (up-)on, + perish, + set at one again, (so) that, therefore(-unto), throughout, til, to (be, the end, -ward), (here-)until(-to), …ward, (where-)fore, with. Often used in composition with the same general import, but only with verbs (etc.) expressing motion (literally or figuratively).
- G1525 — εἰσέρχομαι (eisérchomai, ice-er'-khom-ahee): I go in, come in, enter — from εἰς and ἔρχομαι; to enter (literally or figuratively):--X arise, come (in, into), enter in(-to), go in (through).
- G2076 — ἐστί (estí, es-tee'): third person singular present indicative of εἰμί; he (she or it) is; also (with neuter plural) they are:--are, be(-long), call, X can(-not), come, consisteth, X dure for a while, + follow, X have, (that) is (to say), make, meaneth, X must needs, + profit, + remaineth, + wrestle.
- G2123 — εὐκοπώτερος (eukopṓteros, yoo-kop-o'-ter-os): easier — comparative of a compound of εὖ and κόπος; better for toil, i.e. more facile:--easier.

Often used in connection with other particles. Compare especially ἤδη, ἤπερ, ἤτοι.
- G2316 — θεός (theós, theh'-os): God, a god — of uncertain affinity; a deity, especially (with ὁ) the supreme Divinity; figuratively, a magistrate; by Hebraism, very:--X exceeding, God, god(-ly, -ward).

- G4476 — ῥαφίς (rhaphís, hraf-ece'): a needle — from a primary (to sew; perhaps rather akin to the base of ῥαπίζω through the idea of puncturing); a needle:-- needle.
- G5168 — τρυμαλιά (trymaliá, troo-mal-ee-ah'): the eye of a needle — from a derivative of (to wear away; akin to the base of τραῦμα, τρίβος and τρώγω); an orifice, i.e. needle's eye:--eye. Compare τρύπημα.
