But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.

No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.

And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.

- G46 — ἄγναφος (ágnaphos, ag'-naf-os): unshrunken, new — from Α (as a negative particle) and the same as γναφεύς; properly, unfulled, i.e. (by implication) new (cloth):--new.
- G142 — αἴρω (aírō, ah'-ee-ro): I raise, lift up — a primary root; to lift up; by implication, to take up or away; figuratively, to raise (the voice), keep in suspense (the mind), specially, to sail away (i.e. weigh anchor); by Hebraism (compare נָשָׂא) to expiate sin:--away with, bear (up), carry, lift up, loose, make to doubt, put away, remove, take (away, up).

- G1490 — εἰ δὲ μή(γε) (ei dè mḗ(ge), i deh may'-(gheh)): but if not, else, otherwise — from εἰ, δέ, and μή (sometimes with γέ added); but if not:--(or) else, if (not, otherwise), otherwise.
- G1909 — ἐπί (epí, ep-ee'): on, to, against, on the basis of, at — a primary preposition; properly, meaning superimposition (of time, place, order, etc.), as a relation of distribution (with the genitive case), i.e. over, upon, etc.; of rest (with the dative case) at, on, etc.; of direction (with the accusative case) towards, upon, etc.:--about (the times), above, after, against, among, as long as (touching), at, beside, X have charge of, (be-, (where-))fore, in (a place, as much as, the time of, -to), (because) of, (up-)on (behalf of), over, (by, for) the space of, through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), with. - G4470 — ῥάκος (rhákos, hrak'-os): a piece of cloth — from ῥήγνυμι; a "rag," i.e. piece of cloth:--cloth.
- G4978 — σχίσμα (schísma, skhis'-mah): a rent, division — from σχίζω; a split or gap ("schism"), literally or figuratively:--division, rent, schism.
- G5501 — χείρων (cheírōn, khi'-rone): worse — irregular comparative of κακός; from an obsolete equivalent (of uncertain derivation); more evil or aggravated (physically, mentally or morally):--sorer, worse.
