Acts 22:20

Acts 22:19 Acts 22:20 (KJV) Acts 22:21 [words of Jesus]
And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee:
And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him.
And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.

Strong's References
  • G129 — αἷμα (haîma, hah'-ee-mah): blood — of uncertain derivation; blood, literally (of men or animals), figuratively (the juice of grapes) or specially (the atoning blood of Christ); by implication, bloodshed, also kindred:--blood.
  • G336 — ἀναίρεσις (anaíresis, an-ah'-ee-res-is): killing, slaying, murder — from ἀναιρέω; (the act of) killing:--death.
  • G337 — ἀναιρέω (anairéō, an-ahee-reh'-o): I take up, abolish, murder — from ἀνά and (the active of) αἱρέομαι; to take up, i.e. adopt; by implication, to take away (violently), i.e. abolish, murder:--put to death, kill, slay, take away, take up.
  • G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): he, she, it, they, them, same — from the particle (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons:--her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. Compare αὑτοῦ.
  • G1632 — ἐκχέω (ekchéō, ek-kheh'-o): I pour out, shed — from ἐκ and (to pour); to pour forth; figuratively, to bestow:--gush (pour) out, run greedily (out), shed (abroad, forth), spill.
  • G2186 — ἐφίστημι (ephístēmi, ef-is'-tay-mee): I stand by, am urgent, befall one, impend — from ἐπί and ἵστημι; to stand upon, i.e. be present (in various applications, friendly or otherwise, usually literal); --assault, come (in, to, unto, upon), be at hand (instant), present, stand (before, by, over).
  • G2252 — ἤμην (ḗmēn, ay'-mane): a prolonged form of ἦν; I was:--be, was. (Sometimes unexpressed).
  • G2440 — ἱμάτιον (himátion, him-at'-ee-on): outer garment — neuter of a presumed derivative of ennumi (to put on); a dress (inner or outer):--apparel, cloke, clothes, garment, raiment, robe, vesture.
  • G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): and, even, also, namely — apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.
  • G3144 — μάρτυς (mártys, mar'-toos): a witness — of uncertain affinity; a witness (literally (judicially) or figuratively (genitive case)); by analogy, a "martyr":-- martyr, record, witness.
  • G3753 — ὅτε (hóte, hot'-eh): when — from ὅς and τέ; at which (thing) too, i.e. when:--after (that), as soon as, that, when, while.

  • G4909 — συνευδοκέω (syneudokéō, soon-yoo-dok-eh'-o): I consent, agree, am of one mind with — from σύν and εὐδοκέω; to think well of in common, i.e. assent to, feel gratified with:--allow, assent, be pleased, have pleasure.
  • G5442 — φυλάσσω (phylássō, foo-las'-so): I keep, guard, observe — probably from φυλή through the idea of isolation; to watch, i.e. be on guard (literally of figuratively); by implication, to preserve, obey, avoid:--beward, keep (self), observe, save. Compare τηρέω.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the — the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.
