Matthew 26:6 Matthew 26:7 (KJV) Matthew 26:8
Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,
There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat [at meat].
But when his disciples saw [it], they had indignation, saying, To what purpose [is] this waste?

  • G1909 — ἐπί (epí, ep-ee'): on, to, against, on the basis of, at — a primary preposition; properly, meaning superimposition (of time, place, order, etc.), as a relation of distribution (with the genitive case), i.e. over, upon, etc.; of rest (with the dative case) at, on, etc.; of direction (with the accusative case) towards, upon, etc.:--about (the times), above, after, against, among, as long as (touching), at, beside, X have charge of, (be-, (where-))fore, in (a place, as much as, the time of, -to), (because) of, (up-)on (behalf of), over, (by, for) the space of, through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), with. In compounds it retains essentially the same import, at, upon, etc. (literally or figuratively).
  • G2192 — ἔχω (échō, ekh'-o): I have, hold, possess — a primary verb; to hold (used in very various applications, literally or figuratively, direct or remote; such as possession; ability, contiuity, relation, or condition):--be (able, X hold, possessed with), accompany, + begin to amend, can(+ -not), X conceive, count, diseased, do + eat, + enjoy, + fear, following, have, hold, keep, + lack, + go to law, lie, + must needs, + of necessity, + need, next, + recover, + reign, + rest, + return, X sick, take for, + tremble, + uncircumcised, use.

  • G2708 — καταχέω (katachéō, kat-akh-eh'-o): I pour over — from κατά and cheo (to pour); to pour down (out):--pour.
  • G2776 — κεφαλή (kephalḗ, kef-al-ay'): the head — from the primary (in the sense of seizing); the head (as the part most readily taken hold of), literally or figuratively:--head.
  • G3464 — μύρον (mýron, moo'-ron): anointing-oil, ointment — probably of foreign origin (compare מֹר, σμύρνα); "myrrh", i.e. (by implication) perfumed oil:--ointment.
  • G4334 — προσέρχομαι (prosérchomai, pros-er'-khom-ahee): I come near, consent to — from πρός and ἔρχομαι (including its alternate); to approach, i.e. (literally) come near, visit, or (figuratively) worship, assent to:--(as soon as he) come (unto), come thereunto, consent, draw near, go (near, to, unto).

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:
