Romans 9:2

Romans 9:1 Romans 9:2 (KJV) Romans 9:3

That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.
For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:

  • G2588 — καρδία (kardía, kar-dee'-ah): the heart, inner life, intention — prolonged from a primary (Latin cor, "heart"); the heart, i.e. (figuratively) the thoughts or feelings (mind); also (by analogy) the middle:--(+ broken-)heart(-ed).
  • G3077 — λύπη (lýpē, loo'-pay): pain, grief — apparently a primary word; sadness:--grief, grievous, + grudgingly, heaviness, sorrow.
  • G3173 — μέγας (mégas, meg'-as): large, great — (including the prolonged forms, feminine , plural , etc.; compare also μέγιστος, μείζων); big (literally or figuratively, in a very wide application):--(+ fear) exceedingly, great(-est), high, large, loud, mighty, + (be) sore (afraid), strong, X to years.
  • G3427 — μοί (moí, moy): the simpler form of ἐμοί; to me:--I, me, mine, my.
  • G3450 — μοῦ (moû, moo): the simpler form of ἐμοῦ; of me:--I, me, mine (own), my.
  • G3601 — ὀδύνη (odýnē, od-oo'-nay): pain, distress — from δύνω; grief (as dejecting):--sorrow.
  • G3754 — ὅτι (hóti, hot'-ee): that, since, because — neuter of ὅστις as conjunction; demonstrative, that (sometimes redundant); causative, because:--as concerning that, as though, because (that), for (that), how (that), (in) that, though, why.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the — the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.
