John 12:15
| ← John 12:14 | John 12:15 (KJV) | John 12:16 → |
|---|---|---|
And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,
|
Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt.
|
These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and [that] they had done these things unto him.

Strong's References
- G935 — βασιλεύς (basileús, bas-il-yooce'): a king, ruler, emperor — probably from βάσις (through the notion of a foundation of power); a sovereign (abstractly, relatively, or figuratively):--king.
- G1909 — ἐπί (epí, ep-ee'): on, to, against, on the basis of, at — a primary preposition; properly, meaning superimposition (of time, place, order, etc.), as a relation of distribution (with the genitive case), i.e. over, upon, etc.; of rest (with the dative case) at, on, etc.; of direction (with the accusative case) towards, upon, etc.:--about (the times), above, after, against, among, as long as (touching), at, beside, X have charge of, (be-, (where-))fore, in (a place, as much as, the time of, -to), (because) of, (up-)on (behalf of), over, (by, for) the space of, through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), with. In compounds it retains essentially the same import, at, upon, etc. (literally or figuratively).
- G2064 — ἔρχομαι (érchomai, er'-khom-ahee): I come, go — middle voice of a primary verb (used only in the present and imperfect tenses, the others being supplied by a kindred (middle voice) , or (active) , which do not otherwise occur); to come or go (in a great variety of applications, literally and figuratively):--accompany, appear, bring, come, enter, fall out, go, grow, X light, X next, pass, resort, be set.
- G2364 — θυγάτηρ (thygátēr, thoo-gat'-air): a daughter — apparently a primary word (compare "daughter"); a female child, or (by Hebraism) descendant (or inhabitant):--daughter.
- G2400 — ἰδού (idoú, id-oo'): See! Lo! Behold! Look! — second person singular imperative middle voice of εἴδω; used as imperative lo!; --behold, lo, see.
- G2521 — κάθημαι (káthēmai, kath'-ay-mahee): I sit, am seated — from κατά; and (to sit; akin to the base of ἑδραῖος); to sit down; figuratively, to remain, reside:--dwell, sit (by, down).
- G3361 — μή (mḗ, may): not, lest — a primary particle of qualified negation (whereas οὐ expresses an absolute denial); (adverb) not, (conjunction) lest; also (as an interrogative implying a negative answer (whereas οὐ expects an affirmative one)) whether:--any but (that), X forbear, + God forbid, + lack, lest, neither, never, no (X wise in), none, nor, (can-)not, nothing, that not, un(-taken), without. Often used in compounds in substantially the same relations. See also ἐὰν μή, ἵνα μή, οὐ μή, μῆκος, μηκύνω, μήν, μὴ οὐκ.
- G3688 — ὄνος (ónos, on'-os): a donkey, an ass — apparently a primary word; a donkey:--an ass.
- G4454 — πῶλος (pōlos, po'-los): a colt, young ass — apparently a primary word; a "foal" or "filly", i.e. (specially), a young ass:--colt.
- G4622 — Σιών (Siṓn, see-own'): Zion — of Hebrew origin (צִיּוֹן); Sion (i.e. Tsijon), a hill of Jerusalem; figuratively, the Church (militant or triumphant):--Sion.
- G4675 — σοῦ (soû, soo): genitive case of σύ; of thee, thy:--X home, thee, thine (own), thou, thy.
- G5399 — φοβέω (phobéō, fob-eh'-o): I fear, am terrified — from φόβος; to frighten, i.e. (passively) to be alarmed; by analogy, to be in awe of, i.e. revere:--be (+ sore) afraid, fear (exceedingly), reverence.
The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:
- G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the — the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.
