Judges 5:8

Judges 5:7 Judges 5:8 (KJV) Judges 5:9
[The inhabitants of] the villages ceased, they ceased in Israel, until that I Deborah arose, that I arose a mother in Israel.
They chose new gods; then [was] war in the gates: was there a shield or spear seen among forty thousand in Israel?
My heart [is] toward the governors of Israel, that offered themselves willingly among the people. Bless ye the LORD.

  • H505 — אֶלֶף (ʼeleph, eh'-lef): prop, the same as אֶלֶף; hence (the ox's head being the first letter of the alphabet, and this eventually used as a numeral) a thousand; thousand.

  • H3478 — יִשְׂרָאֵל (Yisrâʼêl, yis-raw-ale'): from שָׂרָה and אֵל; he will rule as God; Jisrael, a symbolical name of Jacob; also (typically) of his posterity; Israel.
  • H3901 — לָחֶם (lâchem, law-khem'): from לָחַם,; battle; war.
  • H4043 — מָגֵן (mâgên, maw-gane'): also (in plural) feminine מְגִנָּה; from גָּנַן; a shield (i.e. the small one or buckler); figuratively, a protector; also the scaly hide of the crocodile; [idiom] armed, buckler, defence, ruler, [phrase] scale, shield.
  • H7200 — רָאָה (râʼâh, raw-aw'): a primitive root; to see, literally or figuratively (in numerous applications, direct and implied, transitive, intransitive and causative); advise self, appear, approve, behold, [idiom] certainly, consider, discern, (make to) enjoy, have experience, gaze, take heed, [idiom] indeed, [idiom] joyfully, lo, look (on, one another, one on another, one upon another, out, up, upon), mark, meet, [idiom] be near, perceive, present, provide, regard, (have) respect, (fore-, cause to, let) see(-r, -m, one another), shew (self), [idiom] sight of others, (e-) spy, stare, [idiom] surely, [idiom] think, view, visions.
  • H7420 — רֹמַח (rômach, ro'-makh): from an unused root meaning to hurl; a lance (as thrown); especially the iron point; buckler, javelin, lancet, spear.
