Matthew 6:22

Matthew 6:21 [words of Jesus] Matthew 6:22 (KJV) [words of Jesus] Matthew 6:23 [words of Jesus]
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great [is] that darkness!

See μή.
  • G2071 — ἔσομαι (ésomai, es'-om-ahee): future of εἰμί; will be:--shall (should) be (have), (shall) come (to pass), X may have, X fall, what would follow, X live long, X sojourn.
  • G2076 — ἐστί (estí, es-tee'): third person singular present indicative of εἰμί; he (she or it) is; also (with neuter plural) they are:--are, be(-long), call, X can(-not), come, consisteth, X dure for a while, + follow, X have, (that) is (to say), make, meaneth, X must needs, + profit, + remaineth, + wrestle.
  • G3088 — λύχνος (lýchnos, lookh'-nos): a lamp — from the base of λευκός; a portable lamp or other illuminator (literally or figuratively):--candle, light.
  • G3650 — ὅλος (hólos, hol'-os): all, the whole, entire — a primary word; "whole" or "all", i.e. complete (in extent, amount, time or degree), especially (neuter) as noun or adverb:--all, altogether, every whit, + throughout, whole.
  • G3767 — οὖν (oûn, oon): therefore, then — apparently a primary word; (adverbially) certainly, or (conjunctionally) accordingly:--and (so, truly), but, now (then), so (likewise then), then, therefore, verily, wherefore.
  • G3788 — ὀφθαλμός (ophthalmós, of-thal-mos'): the eye — from ὀπτάνομαι; the eye (literally or figuratively); by implication, vision; figuratively, envy (from the jealous side-glance):--eye, sight.
  • G4675 — σοῦ (soû, soo): genitive case of σύ; of thee, thy:--X home, thee, thine (own), thou, thy.
  • G4983 — σῶμα (sōma, so'-mah): body, flesh — from σώζω; the body (as a sound whole), used in a very wide application, literally or figuratively:--bodily, body, slave.
  • G5460 — φωτεινός (phōteinós, fo-ti-nos'): bright, luminous, full of light — from φῶς; lustrous, i.e. transparent or well-illuminated (figuratively):--bright, full of light.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the — the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.
  • G5600 — ὦ (ō, o): the subjunctive of εἰμί; (may, might, can, could, would, should, must, etc.; also with εἰ and its comparative, as well as with other particles) be:--+ appear, are, (may, might, should) be, X have, is, + pass the flower of her age, should stand, were.
