1 Peter 2:18

1 Peter 2:17 1 Peter 2:18 (KJV) 1 Peter 2:19
Honour all [men]. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
Servants, [be] subject to [your] masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.
For this [is] thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.

Often used in compounds, with substantially the same import; rarely with verbs of motion, and then not to indicate direction, except (elliptically) by a separate (and different) preposition.
  • G1933 — ἐπιεικής (epieikḗs, ep-ee-i-kace'): gentle, mild, forbearing, fair, reasonable — from ἐπί and εἴκω; appropriate, i.e. (by implication) mild:--gentle, moderation, patient.
  • G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): and, even, also, namely — apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.
  • G3440 — μόνον (mónon, mon'-on): alone, but, only — neuter of μόνος as adverb; merely:--alone, but, only.

  • G3956 — πᾶς (pâs, pas): all, the whole, every kind of — including all the forms of declension; apparently a primary word; all, any, every, the whole:--all (manner of, means), alway(-s), any (one), X daily, + ever, every (one, way), as many as, + no(-thing), X thoroughly, whatsoever, whole, whosoever.
  • G4646 — σκολιός (skoliós, skol-ee-os'): crooked, perverse, unfair — from the base of σκέλος; warped, i.e. winding; figuratively, perverse:--crooked, froward, untoward.
  • G5293 — ὑποτάσσω (hypotássō, hoop-ot-as'-so): I place under, subject to — from ὑπό and τάσσω; to subordinate; reflexively, to obey:--be under obedience (obedient), put under, subdue unto, (be, make) subject (to, unto), be (put) in subjection (to, under), submit self unto.
  • G5401 — φόβος (phóbos, fob'-os): fear, terror, reverence — from a primary (to be put in fear); alarm or fright:--be afraid, + exceedingly, fear, terror.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:
