Luke 8:24
| ← Luke 8:23 | Luke 8:24 (KJV) | Luke 8:25 [words of Jesus] → |
|---|---|---|
But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled [with water], and were in jeopardy.
|
And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.
|
And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.

- G417 — ἄνεμος (ánemos, an'-em-os): the wind — from the base of ἀήρ; wind; (plural) by implication, (the four) quarters (of the earth):--wind.
- G622 — ἀπόλλυμι (apóllymi, ap-ol'-loo-mee): I destroy, lose, am perishing — from ἀπό and the base of ὄλεθρος; to destroy fully (reflexively, to perish, or lose), literally or figuratively:--destroy, die, lose, mar, perish.
- G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): he, she, it, they, them, same — from the particle (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons:--her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. Compare αὑτοῦ.
- G1055 — γαλήνη (galḗnē, gal-ay'-nay): a calm — of uncertain derivation; tranquillity:--calm.
- G1096 — γίνομαι (gínomai, ghin'-om-ahee): I come into being, am born — a prolongation and middle voice form of a primary verb; to cause to be ("gen"-erate), i.e. (reflexively) to become (come into being), used with great latitude (literal, figurative, intensive, etc.):--arise, be assembled, be(-come, -fall, -have self), be brought (to pass), (be) come (to pass), continue, be divided, draw, be ended, fall, be finished, follow, be found, be fulfilled, + God forbid, grow, happen, have, be kept, be made, be married, be ordained to be, partake, pass, be performed, be published, require, seem, be showed, X soon as it was, sound, be taken, be turned, use, wax, will, would, be wrought.
- G1161 — δέ (dé, deh): but, on the other hand, and — a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.:--also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English).
- G1326 — διεγείρω (diegeírō, dee-eg-i'-ro): I wake out of sleep, I arouse — from διά and ἐγείρω; to wake fully; i.e. arouse (literally or figuratively):--arise, awake, raise, stir up.
- G1453 — ἐγείρω (egeírō, eg-i'-ro): I wake, arouse, raise up — probably akin to the base of ἀγορά (through the idea of collecting one's faculties); to waken (transitively or intransitively), i.e. rouse (literally, from sleep, from sitting or lying, from disease, from death; or figuratively, from obscurity, inactivity, ruins, nonexistence):--awake, lift (up), raise (again, up), rear up, (a-)rise (again, up), stand, take up.
- G1988 — ἐπιστάτης (epistátēs, ep-is-tat'-ace): master, teacher — from ἐπί and a presumed derivative of ἵστημι; an appointee over, i.e. commander (teacher):--master.
- G2008 — ἐπιτιμάω (epitimáō, ep-ee-tee-mah'-o): I rebuke, chide, admonish, warn — from ἐπί and τιμάω; to tax upon, i.e. censure or admonish; by implication, forbid:--(straitly) charge, rebuke.
- G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): and, even, also, namely — apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.
- G2830 — κλύδων (klýdōn, kloo'-dohn): rough water — from (to billow or dash over); a surge of the sea (literally or figuratively):--raging, wave.
- G3004 — λέγω (légō, leg'-o): I say, speak — a primary verb; properly, to "lay" forth, i.e. (figuratively) relate (in words (usually of systematic or set discourse; whereas ἔπω and φημί generally refer to an individual expression or speech respectively; while ῥέω is properly to break silence merely, and λαλέω means an extended or random harangue)); by implication, to mean:--ask, bid, boast, call, describe, give out, name, put forth, say(-ing, on), shew, speak, tell, utter.
- G3973 — παύω (paúō, pow'-o): I cause to cease — a primary verb ("pause"); to stop (transitively or intransitively), i.e. restrain, quit, desist, come to an end:--cease, leave, refrain.
- G4334 — προσέρχομαι (prosérchomai, pros-er'-khom-ahee): I come near, consent to — from πρός and ἔρχομαι (including its alternate); to approach, i.e. (literally) come near, visit, or (figuratively) worship, assent to:--(as soon as he) come (unto), come thereunto, consent, draw near, go (near, to, unto).
- G5204 — ὕδωρ (hýdōr, hoo'-dore): water — from the base of ὑετός; water (as if rainy) literally or figuratively:--water.
