For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor [thy] rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.

But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:

Ἔλεγε δὲ καὶ τῷ κεκληκότι αὐτόν, Ὅταν ποιῇς ἄριστον ἢ δεῖπνον, μὴ φώνει τοὺς φίλους σου, μηδὲ τοὺς ἀδελφούς σου, μηδὲ τοὺς συγγενεῖς σου, μηδὲ γείτονας πλουσίους· μήποτε καὶ αὐτοί σε ἀντικαλέσωσι, καὶ γένηταί σοι ἀνταπόδομα.

- G468 — ἀνταπόδομα (antapódoma, an-tap-od'-om-ah): a gift in return, a return, a recompense — from ἀνταποδίδωμι; a requital (properly, the thing):--recompense.
- G479 — ἀντικαλέω (antikaléō, an-tee-kal-eh'-o): I invite in return — from ἀντί and καλέω; to invite in return:--bid again.
- G712 — ἄριστον (áriston, ar'-is-ton): breakfast or a mid-day meal — apparently neuter of a superlative from the same as ἄῤῥην; the best meal (or breakfast; perhaps from ("early")), i.e. luncheon:--dinner.

- G3361 — μή (mḗ, may): not, lest — a primary particle of qualified negation (whereas οὐ expresses an absolute denial); (adverb) not, (conjunction) lest; also (as an interrogative implying a negative answer (whereas οὐ expects an affirmative one)) whether:--any but (that), X forbear, + God forbid, + lack, lest, neither, never, no (X wise in), none, nor, (can-)not, nothing, that not, un(-taken), without. Often used in compounds in substantially the same relations. See also ἐὰν μή, ἵνα μή, οὐ μή, μῆκος, μηκύνω, μήν, μὴ οὐκ.
- G3366 — μηδέ (mēdé, may-deh'): and not, not even — from μή and δέ; but not, not even; in a continued negation, nor:--neither, nor (yet), (no) not (once, so much as).
- G3379 — μήποτε (mḗpote, may'-pot-eh): lest at any time, lest, perhaps — from μή and ποτέ; not ever; also if (or lest) ever (or perhaps):--if peradventure, lest (at any time, haply), not at all, whether or not.
- G3752 — ὅταν (hótan, hot'-an): when, whensoever — from ὅτε and ἄν; whenever (implying hypothesis or more or less uncertainty); also causatively (conjunctionally) inasmuch as:--as long (soon) as, that, + till, when(-soever), while.
- G4145 — πλούσιος (ploúsios, ploo'-see-os): rich — from πλοῦτος; wealthy; figuratively, abounding with:--rich.
