And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita.
|
And the barbarous people shewed us no little kindness: for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.

In composition it retains the same general importance.
- G2186 — ἐφίστημι (ephístēmi, ef-is'-tay-mee): I stand by, am urgent, befall one, impend — from ἐπί and ἵστημι; to stand upon, i.e. be present (in various applications, friendly or otherwise, usually literal); --assault, come (in, to, unto, upon), be at hand (instant), present, stand (before, by, over).
- G2248 — ἡμᾶς (hēmâs, hay-mas'): accusative case plural of ἐγώ; us:--our, us, we.

- G3756 — οὐ (ou, oo): no, not — a primary word; the absolute negative (compare μή) adverb; no or not:--+ long, nay, neither, never, no (X man), none, (can-)not, + nothing, + special, un(-worthy), when, + without, + yet but. See also οὐ μή, μῆκος.
