And after that many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel to kill him:
|
But their laying await was known of Saul. And they watched the gates day and night to kill him.

Strong's References
- G337 — ἀναιρέω (anairéō, an-ahee-reh'-o): I take up, abolish, murder — from ἀνά and (the active of) αἱρέομαι; to take up, i.e. adopt; by implication, to take away (violently), i.e. abolish, murder:--put to death, kill, slay, take away, take up.
- G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): he, she, it, they, them, same — from the particle (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons:--her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. Compare αὑτοῦ.
- G1097 — γινώσκω (ginṓskō, ghin-oce'-ko): I come to know, learn, realize — a prolonged form of a primary verb; to "know" (absolutely) in a great variety of applications and with many implications (as follow, with others not thus clearly expressed):--allow, be aware (of), feel, (have) know(-ledge), perceived, be resolved, can speak, be sure, understand.
- G1161 — δέ (dé, deh): but, on the other hand, and — a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.:--also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English).
- G1917 — ἐπιβουλή (epiboulḗ, ep-ee-boo-lay'): a plot, design against — from a presumed compound of ἐπί and βούλομαι; a plan against someone, i.e. a plot:--laying (lying) in wait.
- G2250 — ἡμέρα (hēméra, hay-mer'-ah): a day — feminine (with ὥρα implied) of a derivative of (to sit; akin to the base of ἑδραῖος) meaning tame, i.e. gentle; day, i.e. (literally) the time space between dawn and dark, or the whole 24 hours (but several days were usually reckoned by the Jews as inclusive of the parts of both extremes); figuratively, a period (always defined more or less clearly by the context):--age, + alway, (mid-)day (by day, (-ly)), + for ever, judgment, (day) time, while, years.
- G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): and, even, also, namely — apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.
- G3571 — νύξ (nýx, noox): the night, night-time — a primary word; "night" (literally or figuratively):-- (mid-)night.
- G3704 — ὅπως (hópōs, hop'-oce): how, in order that, so that — from ὅς and πῶς; what(-ever) how, i.e. in the manner that (as adverb or conjunction of coincidence, intentional or actual):--because, how, (so) that, to, when.
- G3906 — παρατηρέω (paratēréō, par-at-ay-reh'-o): I watch — from παρά and τηρέω; to inspect alongside, i.e. note insidiously or scrupulously:--observe, watch.
- G4439 — πύλη (pýlē, poo'-lay): a door, gate — apparently a primary word; a gate, i.e. the leaf or wing of a folding entrance (literally or figuratively):--gate.
- G4569 — Σαῦλος (Saûlos, sow'-los): Saul, the apostle — of Hebrew origin, the same as Σαούλ; Saulus (i.e. Shaul), the Jewish name of Paul:--Saul.
- G5037 — τέ (té, teh): and, both — a primary particle (enclitic) of connection or addition; both or also (properly, as correlation of καί):--also, and, both, even, then, whether. Often used in composition, usually as the latter participle.
The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:
- G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the — the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.
