Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?

He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with [their] lips, but their heart is far from me.

Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching [for] doctrines the commandments of men.

ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὅτι Καλῶς προεφήτευσεν Ἠσαΐας περὶ ὑμῶν τῶν ὑποκριτῶν, ὡς γέγραπται, Οὗτος ὁ λαὸς τοῖς χείλεσί με τιμᾷ, ἡ δὲ καρδία αὐτῶν πόρρω ἀπέχει ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ.

- G568 — ἀπέχω (apéchō, ap-ekh'-o): I have in full, am far, it is enough — from ἀπό and ἔχω; (actively) to have out, i.e. receive in full; (intransitively) to keep (oneself) away, i.e. be distant (literally or figuratively):--be, have, receive.

- G4206 — πόῤῥω (pórrhō, por'-rho): far, far off — adverb from πρό; forwards, i.e. at a distance:--far, a great way off. See also πόῤῥωθεν.
- G4395 — προφητεύω (prophēteúō, prof-ate-yoo'-o): I foretell, prophesy — from προφήτης; to foretell events, divine, speak under inspiration, exercise the prophetic office:--prophesy.
- G5091 — τιμάω (timáō, tim-ah'-o): I value at a price, honor — from τίμιος; to prize, i.e. fix a valuation upon; by implication, to revere:--honour, value.
