Matthew 24:38
| ← Matthew 24:37 [words of Jesus] | Matthew 24:38 (KJV) [words of Jesus] | Matthew 24:39 [words of Jesus] → |
|---|---|---|
But as the days of Noe [were], so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
|
For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
|
And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

- G891 — ἄχρι (áchri, akh'-ree): as far as, up to, until — akin to ἄκρον (through the idea of a terminus); (of time) until or (of place) up to:--as far as, for, in(-to), till, (even, un-)to, until, while. Compare μέχρι.
- G1060 — γαμέω (gaméō, gam-eh'-o): I marry — from γάμος; to wed (of either sex):--marry (a wife).
- G1063 — γάρ (gár, gar): for — a primary particle; properly, assigning a reason (used in argument, explanation or intensification; often with other particles):--and, as, because (that), but, even, for, indeed, no doubt, seeing, then, therefore, verily, what, why, yet.
- G1519 — εἰς (eis, ice): into, in, among, till, for — a primary preposition; to or into (indicating the point reached or entered), of place, time, or (figuratively) purpose (result, etc.); also in adverbial phrases:--(abundant-)ly, against, among, as, at, (back-)ward, before, by, concerning, + continual, + far more exceeding, for (intent, purpose), fore, + forth, in (among, at, unto, -so much that, -to), to the intent that, + of one mind, + never, of, (up-)on, + perish, + set at one again, (so) that, therefore(-unto), throughout, til, to (be, the end, -ward), (here-)until(-to), …ward, (where-)fore, with. Often used in composition with the same general import, but only with verbs (etc.) expressing motion (literally or figuratively).
- G1525 — εἰσέρχομαι (eisérchomai, ice-er'-khom-ahee): I go in, come in, enter — from εἰς and ἔρχομαι; to enter (literally or figuratively):--X arise, come (in, into), enter in(-to), go in (through).
- G1547 — ἐκγαμίζω (ekgamízō, ek-gam-id'-zo): I give in marriage, marry — from ἐκ and a form of γαμίσκω (compare ἐκγαμίσκω); to marry off a daughter:--give in marriage.
- G1722 — ἐν (en, en): in, on, among — a primary preposition denoting (fixed) position (in place, time or state), and (by implication) instrumentality (medially or constructively), i.e. a relation of rest (intermediate between εἰς and ἐκ); "in," at, (up-)on, by, etc.:--about, after, against, + almost, X altogether, among, X as, at, before, between, (here-)by (+ all means), for (… sake of), + give self wholly to, (here-)in(-to, -wardly), X mightily, (because) of, (up-)on, (open-)ly, X outwardly, one, X quickly, X shortly, (speedi-)ly, X that, X there(-in, -on), through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), under, when, where(-with), while, with(-in). Often used in compounds, with substantially the same import; rarely with verbs of motion, and then not to indicate direction, except (elliptically) by a separate (and different) preposition.
- G2250 — ἡμέρα (hēméra, hay-mer'-ah): a day — feminine (with ὥρα implied) of a derivative of (to sit; akin to the base of ἑδραῖος) meaning tame, i.e. gentle; day, i.e. (literally) the time space between dawn and dark, or the whole 24 hours (but several days were usually reckoned by the Jews as inclusive of the parts of both extremes); figuratively, a period (always defined more or less clearly by the context):--age, + alway, (mid-)day (by day, (-ly)), + for ever, judgment, (day) time, while, years.
- G2258 — ἦν (ēn, ane): imperfect of εἰμί; I (thou, etc.) was (wast or were):--+ agree, be, X have (+ charge of), hold, use, was(-t), were.
- G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): and, even, also, namely — apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.
- G2627 — κατακλυσμός (kataklysmós, kat-ak-looce-mos'): a deluge, flood — from κατακλύζω; an inundation:--flood.
- G2787 — κιβωτός (kibōtós, kib-o-tos'): an ark — of uncertain derivation; a box, i.e. the sacred ark and that of Noah:--ark.
- G3575 — Νῶε (Nōe, no'-eh): Noah — of Hebrew origin (נֹחַ); Noë, (i.e. Noäch), a patriarch:--Noe.
- G3739 — ὅς (hós, hos): who, which, what, that — probably a primary word (or perhaps a form of the article ὁ); the relatively (sometimes demonstrative) pronoun, who, which, what, that:--one, (an-, the) other, some, that, what, which, who(-m, -se), etc. See also οὗ.
- G4095 — πίνω (pínō, pee'-no): I drink, imbibe — a prolonged form of ; which (together with another form) ; occurs only as an alternate in certain tenses; to imbibe (literally or figuratively):--drink.
- G4253 — πρό (pró, pro): before — a primary preposition; "fore", i.e. in front of, prior (figuratively, superior) to:--above, ago, before, or ever. In the comparative, it retains the same significations.
- G5176 — τρώγω (trṓgō, tro'-go): I eat — probably strengthened from a collateral form of the base of τραῦμα and τρίβος through the idea of corrosion or wear; or perhaps rather of a base of τρυγών and τρίζω through the idea of a craunching sound; to gnaw or chew, i.e. (generally) to eat:--eat.
