1 Corinthians 9:26

1 Corinthians 9:25 1 Corinthians 9:26 (KJV) 1 Corinthians 9:27
And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they [do it] to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
But I keep under my body, and bring [it] into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Strong's References
  • G84 — ἀδήλως (adḗlōs, ad-ay'-loce): out of sight, uncertainly — adverb from ἄδηλος; uncertainly:--uncertainly.
  • G109 — ἀήρ (aḗr, ah-ayr'): air — from (to breathe unconsciously, i.e. respire; by analogy, to blow); "air" (as naturally circumambient):--air. Compare ψύχω.
  • G1194 — δέρω (dérō, der'-o): I flay, flog, scourge, beat — a primary verb; properly, to flay, i.e. (by implication) to scourge, or (by analogy) to thrash:--beat, smite.
  • G1473 — ἐγώ (egṓ, eg-o'): I — a primary pronoun of the first person I (only expressed when emphatic):--I, me. For the other cases and the plural see ἐμέ, ἐμοί, ἐμοῦ, ἡμᾶς, ἡμεῖς, ἡμῖν, ἡμῶν, etc.
  • G3756 — οὐ (ou, oo): no, not — a primary word; the absolute negative (compare μή) adverb; no or not:--+ long, nay, neither, never, no (X man), none, (can-)not, + nothing, + special, un(-worthy), when, + without, + yet but. See also οὐ μή, μῆκος.
  • G3779 — οὕτω (hoútō, hoo'-to): thus, so, in this manner — adverb from οὗτος; in this way (referring to what precedes or follows):--after that, after (in) this manner, as, even (so), for all that, like(-wise), no more, on this fashion(-wise), so (in like manner), thus, what.
  • G4438 — πυκτέω (pyktéō, pook-teh'-o): I box — from a derivative of the same as πυγμή; to box (with the fist), i.e. contend (as a boxer) at the games (figuratively):--fight.
  • G5106 — τοίνυν (toínyn, toy'-noon): indeed now, therefore — from τοί and νῦν; truly now, i.e. accordingly:--then, therefore.
  • G5143 — τρέχω (tréchō, trekh'-o): I run, exercise myself — apparently a primary verb (properly, ; compare θρίξ); which uses (the base of δρόμος) as alternate in certain tenses; to run or walk hastily (literally or figuratively):--have course, run.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • G5613 — ὡς (hōs, hoce): as, like as, how, while, so that — probably adverb of comparative from ὅς; which how, i.e. in that manner (very variously used, as follows):--about, after (that), (according) as (it had been, it were), as soon (as), even as (like), for, how (greatly), like (as, unto), since, so (that), that, to wit, unto, when(-soever), while, X with all speed.
