Isaiah 33:9
| ← Isaiah 33:8 | Isaiah 33:9 (KJV) | Isaiah 33:10 → |
|---|---|---|
The highways lie waste, the wayfaring man ceaseth: he hath broken the covenant, he hath despised the cities, he regardeth no man.
|
The earth mourneth [and] languisheth: Lebanon is ashamed [and] hewn down: Sharon is like a wilderness; and Bashan and Carmel shake off [their fruits].

Now will I rise, saith the LORD; now will I be exalted; now will I lift up myself.

- H56 — אָבַל (ʼâbal, aw-bal'): a primitive root; to bewail; lament, mourn.
- H535 — אָמַל (ʼâmal, aw-mal'): a primitive root; to droop; by implication to be sick, to mourn; languish, be weak, wax feeble.
- H776 — אֶרֶץ (ʼerets, eh'-rets): from an unused root probably meaning to be firm; the earth (at large, or partitively a land); [idiom] common, country, earth, field, ground, land, [idiom] natins, way, [phrase] wilderness, world.

- H2659 — חָפֵר (châphêr, khaw-fare'): a primitive root (perhaps rather the same as חָפַר through the idea of detection); to blush; figuratively, to be ashamed, disappointed; causatively, to shame, reproach; be ashamed, be confounded, be brought to confusion (unto shame), come (be put to) shame, bring reproach.
- H3760 — כַּרְמֶל (Karmel, kar-mel'): the same as כַּרְמֶל; Karmel, the name of a hill and of a town in Palestine; Carmel, fruitful (plentiful) field, (place).

- H5287 — נָעַר (nâʻar, naw-ar'): a primitive root (probably identical with נָעַר, through the idea of the rustling of mane, which usually accompanies the lion's roar); to tumble about; shake (off, out, self), overthrow, toss up and down.
- H6160 — עֲרָבָה (ʻărâbâh, ar-aw-baw'): from עָרַב (in the sense of sterility); a desert; especially (with the article prefix) the (generally) sterile valley of the Jordan and its continuation to the Red Sea; Arabah, champaign, desert, evening, heaven, plain, wilderness. See also בֵּית הָעֲרָבָה.
- H7060 — קָמַל (qâmal, kaw-mal'): a primitive root; to wither; hew down, wither.
- H8289 — שָׁרוֹן (Shârôwn, shaw-rone'): probably abridged from יָשַׁר; plain, Sharon, the name of a place in Palestine; Lasharon, Sharon.
The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Hebrew (Westminster Leningrad Codex) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:
- H1961 — הָיָה (hâyâh, haw-yaw): a primitive root (compare הָוָא); to exist, i.e. be or become, come to pass (always emphatic, and not a mere copula or auxiliary); beacon, [idiom] altogether, be(-come), accomplished, committed, like), break, cause, come (to pass), do, faint, fall, [phrase] follow, happen, [idiom] have, last, pertain, quit (one-) self, require, [idiom] use.
