Isaiah 33:9

Isaiah 33:8 Isaiah 33:9 (KJV) Isaiah 33:10
The highways lie waste, the wayfaring man ceaseth: he hath broken the covenant, he hath despised the cities, he regardeth no man.
The earth mourneth [and] languisheth: Lebanon is ashamed [and] hewn down: Sharon is like a wilderness; and Bashan and Carmel shake off [their fruits].
Now will I rise, saith the LORD; now will I be exalted; now will I lift up myself.

Strong's References

  • H776 — אֶרֶץ (ʼerets, eh'-rets): from an unused root probably meaning to be firm; the earth (at large, or partitively a land); [idiom] common, country, earth, field, ground, land, [idiom] natins, way, [phrase] wilderness, world.
  • H1316 — בָּשָׁן (Bâshân, baw-shawn'): of uncertain derivation; Bashan (often with the article), a region East of the Jordan; Bashan.
  • H2659 — חָפֵר (châphêr, khaw-fare'): a primitive root (perhaps rather the same as חָפַר through the idea of detection); to blush; figuratively, to be ashamed, disappointed; causatively, to shame, reproach; be ashamed, be confounded, be brought to confusion (unto shame), come (be put to) shame, bring reproach.
  • H3760 — כַּרְמֶל (Karmel, kar-mel'): the same as כַּרְמֶל; Karmel, the name of a hill and of a town in Palestine; Carmel, fruitful (plentiful) field, (place).
  • H3844 — לְבָנוֹן (Lᵉbânôwn, leb-aw-nohn'): from לְבַב; (the) white mountain (from its snow); Lebanon, a mountain range in Palestine; Lebanon.
  • H5287 — נָעַר (nâʻar, naw-ar'): a primitive root (probably identical with נָעַר, through the idea of the rustling of mane, which usually accompanies the lion's roar); to tumble about; shake (off, out, self), overthrow, toss up and down.
  • H6160 — עֲרָבָה (ʻărâbâh, ar-aw-baw'): from עָרַב (in the sense of sterility); a desert; especially (with the article prefix) the (generally) sterile valley of the Jordan and its continuation to the Red Sea; Arabah, champaign, desert, evening, heaven, plain, wilderness. See also בֵּית הָעֲרָבָה.
  • H7060 — קָמַל (qâmal, kaw-mal'): a primitive root; to wither; hew down, wither.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Hebrew (Westminster Leningrad Codex) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • H1961 — הָיָה (hâyâh, haw-yaw): a primitive root (compare הָוָא); to exist, i.e. be or become, come to pass (always emphatic, and not a mere copula or auxiliary); beacon, [idiom] altogether, be(-come), accomplished, committed, like), break, cause, come (to pass), do, faint, fall, [phrase] follow, happen, [idiom] have, last, pertain, quit (one-) self, require, [idiom] use.
