James 2:9

James 2:8 James 2:9 (KJV) James 2:10
If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:
But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.
For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one [point], he is guilty of all.

Strong's References
  • G266 — ἁμαρτία (hamartía, ham-ar-tee'-ah): a sin — from ἁμαρτάνω; a sin (properly abstract):--offence, sin(-ful).
  • G1161 — δέ (dé, deh): but, on the other hand, and — a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.:--also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English).
  • G1487 — εἰ (ei, i): if — a primary particle of conditionality; if, whether, that, etc.:--forasmuch as, if, that, (al-)though, whether. Often used in connection or composition with other particles, especially as in εἴγε, εἰ δὲ μή(γε), εἰ καί, εἰ μή, εἰ μή τι, εἴ περ, εἴ πως, εἴ τις, ἐκ. See also ἐάν.
  • G1651 — ἐλέγχω (elénchō, el-eng'-kho): I rebuke, expose — of uncertain affinity; to confute, admonish:--convict, convince, tell a fault, rebuke, reprove.
  • G2038 — ἐργάζομαι (ergázomai, er-gad'-zom-ahee): I word, trade, do — middle voice from ἔργον; to toil (as a task, occupation, etc.), (by implication) effect, be engaged in or with, etc.:--commit, do, labor for, minister about, trade (by), work.
  • G3551 — νόμος (nómos, nom'-os): a law, the Mosaic Law — from a primary (to parcel out, especially food or grazing to animals); law (through the idea of prescriptive usage), genitive case (regulation), specially, (of Moses (including the volume); also of the Gospel), or figuratively (a principle):--law.
  • G3848 — παραβάτης (parabátēs, par-ab-at'-ace): a transgressor — from παραβαίνω; a violator:--breaker, transgress(-or).
  • G4380 — προσωποληπτέω (prosōpolēptéō, pros-o-pol-ape-teh'-o): I show partiality — from προσωπολήπτης; to favor an individual, i.e. show partiality:--have respect to persons.
  • G5259 — ὑπό (hypó, hoop-o'): by, under, about — a primary preposition; under, i.e. (with the genitive case) of place (beneath), or with verbs (the agency or means, through); (with the accusative case) of place (whither (underneath) or where (below) or time (when (at)):--among, by, from, in, of, under, with. In the comparative, it retains the same general applications, especially of inferior position or condition, and specially, covertly or moderately.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the — the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.
  • G5613 — ὡς (hōs, hoce): as, like as, how, while, so that — probably adverb of comparative from ὅς; which how, i.e. in that manner (very variously used, as follows):--about, after (that), (according) as (it had been, it were), as soon (as), even as (like), for, how (greatly), like (as, unto), since, so (that), that, to wit, unto, when(-soever), while, X with all speed.
