Luke 17:2

|---|---|---|
Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe [unto him], through whom they come!
|
It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.
|
Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.

- G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): he, she, it, they, them, same — from the particle (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons:--her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. Compare αὑτοῦ.
- G1487 — εἰ (ei, i): if — a primary particle of conditionality; if, whether, that, etc.:--forasmuch as, if, that, (al-)though, whether. Often used in connection or composition with other particles, especially as in εἴγε, εἰ δὲ μή(γε), εἰ καί, εἰ μή, εἰ μή τι, εἴ περ, εἴ πως, εἴ τις, ἐκ. See also ἐάν.
- G1519 — εἰς (eis, ice): into, in, among, till, for — a primary preposition; to or into (indicating the point reached or entered), of place, time, or (figuratively) purpose (result, etc.); also in adverbial phrases:--(abundant-)ly, against, among, as, at, (back-)ward, before, by, concerning, + continual, + far more exceeding, for (intent, purpose), fore, + forth, in (among, at, unto, -so much that, -to), to the intent that, + of one mind, + never, of, (up-)on, + perish, + set at one again, (so) that, therefore(-unto), throughout, til, to (be, the end, -ward), (here-)until(-to), …ward, (where-)fore, with. Often used in composition with the same general import, but only with verbs (etc.) expressing motion (literally or figuratively).
- G1520 — εἷς (heîs, hice): one — a primary numeral; one:--a(-n, -ny, certain), + abundantly, man, one (another), only, other, some. See also εἷς καθ’ εἷς, μηδείς, μία, οὐδείς.
- G2228 — ἤ (ḗ, ay): or, than — a primary particle of distinction between two connected terms; disjunctive, or; comparative, than:--and, but (either), (n-)either, except it be, (n-)or (else), rather, save, than, that, what, yea. Often used in connection with other particles. Compare especially ἤδη, ἤπερ, ἤτοι.
- G2281 — θάλασσα (thálassa, thal'-as-sah): the sea, lake — probably prolonged from ἅλς; the sea (genitive case or specially):--sea.
- G2443 — ἵνα (hína, hin'-ah): in order that, so that — probably from the same as the former part of ἑαυτοῦ (through the demonstrative idea; compare ὁ); in order that (denoting the purpose or the result):--albeit, because, to the intent (that), lest, so as, (so) that, (for) to. Compare ἵνα μή.
- G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): and, even, also, namely — apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.
- G3081 — λυσιτελεῖ (lysiteleî, loo-sit-el-i'): it profits — third person singular present indicative active of a derivative of a compound of λύσις and τέλος; impersonally, it answers the purpose, i.e. is advantageous:--it is better.
- G3398 — μικρός (mikrós, mik-ros'): little, small — apparently a primary word; small (in size, quantity, number or (figuratively) dignity):--least, less, little, small.
- G3458 — μύλος (mýlos, moo'-los): a millstone — probably ultimately from the base of μόλις (through the idea of hardship); a "mill", i.e. (by implication), a grinder (millstone):--millstone.
- G3684 — ὀνικός (onikós, on-ik-os'): pertaining to an ass — from ὄνος; belonging to a ass, i.e. large (so as to be turned by a ass):--millstone.
- G4012 — περί (perí, per-ee'): about, concerning, around — from the base of πέραν; properly, through (all over), i.e. around; figuratively with respect to; used in various applications, of place, cause or time (with the genitive case denoting the subject or occasion or superlative point; with the accusative case the locality, circuit, matter, circumstance or general period):--(there-)about, above, against, at, on behalf of, X and his company, which concern, (as) concerning, for, X how it will go with, ((there-, where-)) of, on, over, pertaining (to), for sake, X (e-)state, (as) touching, (where-)by (in), with. In comparative, it retains substantially the same meaning of circuit (around), excess (beyond), or completeness (through).
- G4029 — περίκειμαι (períkeimai, per-ik'-i-mahee): I surround, am surrounded with — from περί and κεῖμαι; to lie all around, i.e. inclose, encircle, hamper (literally or figuratively):--be bound (compassed) with, hang about.
- G4496 — ῥίπτω (rhíptō, hrip'-to): I throw, cast, toss — a primary verb (perhaps rather akin to the base of ῥαπίζω, through the idea of sudden motion); to fling (properly, with a quick toss, thus differing from βάλλω, which denotes a deliberate hurl; and from (see in ἐκτείνω), which indicates an extended projection); by qualification, to deposit (as if a load); by extension, to disperse:--cast (down, out), scatter abroad, throw.
- G4624 — σκανδαλίζω (skandalízō, skan-dal-id'-zo): I cause to stumble — from σκάνδαλον; to entrap, i.e. trip up (figuratively, stumble (transitively) or entice to sin, apostasy or displeasure):--(make to) offend.

- G5137 — τράχηλος (tráchēlos, trakh'-ay-los): the neck — probably from τρέχω (through the idea of mobility); the throat (neck), i.e. (figuratively) life:--neck.
