For I will defend this city, to save it, for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.

And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they [were] all dead corpses.

So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh.

And it came to pass that nightH3915, that the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 went outH3318, and smoteH5221 in the campH4264 of the AssyriansH804 an hundredH3967 fourscoreH8084 and fiveH2568 thousandH505: and when they arose earlyH7925 in the morningH1242, behold, they were all deadH4191 corpsesH6297.

- H505 — אֶלֶף (ʼeleph, eh'-lef): prop, the same as אֶלֶף; hence (the ox's head being the first letter of the alphabet, and this eventually used as a numeral) a thousand; thousand.
- H804 — אַשּׁוּר (ʼAshshûwr, ash-shoor'): or אַשֻּׁר; apparently from אָשַׁר (in the sense of successful); Ashshur, the second son of Shem; also his descendants and the country occupied by them (i.e. Assyria), its region and its empire; Asshur, Assur, Assyria, Assyrians. See אָשֻׁר.
