Hebrews 9:23

Hebrews 9:22 Hebrews 9:23 (KJV) Hebrews 9:24
And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
[It was] therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, [which are] the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:

Strong's References
  • G318 — ἀνάγκη (anánkē, an-ang-kay'): necessity, constraint, compulsion — from ἀνά and the base of ἀγκάλη; constraint (literally or figuratively); by implication, distress:--distress, must needs, (of) necessity(-sary), needeth, needful.
  • G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): he, she, it, they, them, same — from the particle (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons:--her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. Compare αὑτοῦ.
  • G1161 — δέ (dé, deh): but, on the other hand, and — a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.:--also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English).
  • G1722 — ἐν (en, en): in, on, among — a primary preposition denoting (fixed) position (in place, time or state), and (by implication) instrumentality (medially or constructively), i.e. a relation of rest (intermediate between εἰς and ἐκ); "in," at, (up-)on, by, etc.:--about, after, against, + almost, X altogether, among, X as, at, before, between, (here-)by (+ all means), for (… sake of), + give self wholly to, (here-)in(-to, -wardly), X mightily, (because) of, (up-)on, (open-)ly, X outwardly, one, X quickly, X shortly, (speedi-)ly, X that, X there(-in, -on), through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), under, when, where(-with), while, with(-in). Often used in compounds, with substantially the same import; rarely with verbs of motion, and then not to indicate direction, except (elliptically) by a separate (and different) preposition.
  • G2032 — ἐπουράνιος (epouránios, ep-oo-ran'-ee-os): heavenly, celestial — from ἐπί and οὐρανός; above the sky:--celestial, (in) heaven(-ly), high.
  • G2378 — θυσία (thysía, thoo-see'-ah): a sacrifice — from θύω; sacrifice (the act or the victim, literally or figuratively):--sacrifice.
  • G2511 — καθαρίζω (katharízō, kath-ar-id'-zo): I make clean — from καθαρός; to cleanse (literally or figuratively):--(make) clean(-se), purge, purify.
  • G2909 — κρείττων (kreíttōn, krite'-tohn): stronger, more excellent — comparative of a derivative of κράτος; stronger, i.e. (figuratively) better, i.e. nobler:--best, better.
  • G3303 — μέν (mén, men): truly, indeed — a primary particle; properly, indicative of affirmation or concession (in fact); usually followed by a contrasted clause with δέ (this one, the former, etc.):--even, indeed, so, some, truly, verily. Often compounded with other particles in an intensive or asseverative sense.
  • G3767 — οὖν (oûn, oon): therefore, then — apparently a primary word; (adverbially) certainly, or (conjunctionally) accordingly:--and (so, truly), but, now (then), so (likewise then), then, therefore, verily, wherefore.
  • G3772 — οὐρανός (ouranós, oo-ran-os'): the sky, the heaven — perhaps from the same as ὄρος (through the idea of elevation); the sky; by extension, heaven (as the abode of God); by implication, happiness, power, eternity; specially, the Gospel (Christianity):--air, heaven(-ly), sky.
  • G3844 — παρά (pará, par-ah'): from, in the presence of — a primary preposition; properly, near; i.e. (with genitive case) from beside (literally or figuratively), (with dative case) at (or in) the vicinity of (objectively or subjectively), (with accusative case) to the proximity with (local (especially beyond or opposed to) or causal (on account of):--above, against, among, at, before, by, contrary to, X friend, from, + give (such things as they), + that (she) had, X his, in, more than, nigh unto, (out) of, past, save, side…by, in the sight of, than, (there-)fore, with. In compounds it retains the same variety of application.
  • G5025 — ταύταις (taútais, tow'-taheece): dative case and accusative case feminine plural respectively of οὗτος; (to or with or by, etc.) these:--hence, that, then, these, those.
  • G5125 — τούτοις (toútois, too'-toice): dative case plural masculine or neuter of οὗτος; to (for, in, with or by) these (persons or things):--such, them, there(-in, -with), these, this, those.
  • G5262 — ὑπόδειγμα (hypódeigma, hoop-od'-igue-mah): a figure, copy, example — from ὑποδείκνυμι; an exhibit for imitation or warning (figuratively, specimen, adumbration):--en-(ex-)ample, pattern.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the — the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.
