Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

Woe unto you, [ye] blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!

Οὐαὶ ὑμῖν, γραμματεῖς καὶ Φαρισαῖοι, ὑποκριταί, ὅτι περιάγετε τὴν θάλασσαν καὶ τὴν ξηρὰν ποιῆσαι ἕνα προσήλυτον, καὶ ὅταν γένηται, ποιεῖτε αὐτὸν υἱὸν γεέννης διπλότερον ὑμῶν.

- G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): he, she, it, they, them, same — from the particle (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons:--her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. - G1067 — γέεννα (géenna, gheh'-en-nah): Gehenna — of Hebrew origin (גַּיְא and הִנֹּם); valley of (the son of) Hinnom; ge-henna (or Ge-Hinnom), a valley of Jerusalem, used (figuratively) as a name for the place (or state) of everlasting punishment:--hell.

- G1122 — γραμματεύς (grammateús, gram-mat-yooce'): a scribe, town-clerk, man of learning — from γράμμα. a writer, i.e. (professionally) scribe or secretary:--scribe, town-clerk.
- G1362 — διπλοῦς (diploûs, dip-looce'): double, two-fold — from δίς and (probably) the base of πλείων; two-fold:--double, two-fold more.
- G1520 — εἷς (heîs, hice): one — a primary numeral; one:--a(-n, -ny, certain), + abundantly, man, one (another), only, other, some. See also εἷς καθ’ εἷς, μηδείς, μία, οὐδείς.
- G2281 — θάλασσα (thálassa, thal'-as-sah): the sea, lake — probably prolonged from ἅλς; the sea (genitive case or specially):--sea.
- G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): and, even, also, namely — apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.

- G3759 — οὐαί (ouaí, oo-ah'-ee): woe!, alas! — a primary exclamation of grief; "woe":--alas, woe.
- G4013 — περιάγω (periágō, per-ee-ag'-o): I lead about, go about — from περί and ἄγω; to take around (as a companion); reflexively, to walk around:--compass, go (round) about, lead about.

- G4339 — προσήλυτος (prosḗlytos, pros-ay'-loo-tos): a proselyte — from the alternate of προσέρχομαι; an arriver from a foreign region, i.e. (specially), an acceder (convert) to Judaism ("proselyte"):--proselyte.
- G5207 — υἱός (huiós, hwee-os'): a son, descendent — apparently a primary word; a "son" (sometimes of animals), used very widely of immediate, remote or figuratively, kinship:--child, foal, son.
- G5213 — ὑμῖν (hymîn, hoo-min'): irregular dative case of ὑμεῖς; to (with or by) you:--ye, you, your(-selves).
- G5216 — ὑμῶν (hymōn, hoo-mone'): genitive case of ὑμεῖς; of (from or concerning) you:--ye, you, your (own, -selves).
- G5273 — ὑποκριτής (hypokritḗs, hoop-ok-ree-tace'): a hypocrite, dissembler — from ὑποκρίνομαι; an actor under an assumed character (stage-player), i.e. (figuratively) a dissembler ("hypocrite":--hypocrite.
