2 Corinthians 12:15
| ← 2 Corinthians 12:14 | 2 Corinthians 12:15 (KJV) | 2 Corinthians 12:16 → |
|---|---|---|
Behold, the third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be burdensome to you: for I seek not yours, but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.
|
And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved.
|
But be it so, I did not burden you: nevertheless, being crafty, I caught you with guile.

- G25 — ἀγαπάω (agapáō, ag-ap-ah'-o): I love — perhaps from (much) (or compare עֲגַב); to love (in a social or moral sense):--(be-)love(-ed). Compare φιλέω.
- G1159 — δαπανάω (dapanáō, dap-an-ah'-o): I spend, bear expense, waste — from δαπάνη; to expend, i.e. (in a good sense) to incur cost, or (in a bad one) to waste:--be at charges, consume, spend.
- G1161 — δέ (dé, deh): but, on the other hand, and — a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.:--also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English).
- G1473 — ἐγώ (egṓ, eg-o'): I — a primary pronoun of the first person I (only expressed when emphatic):--I, me. For the other cases and the plural see ἐμέ, ἐμοί, ἐμοῦ, ἡμᾶς, ἡμεῖς, ἡμῖν, ἡμῶν, etc.
- G1499 — εἰ καί (ei kaí, i kahee): from εἰ and καί; if also (or even):--if (that), though.
- G1550 — ἐκδαπανάω (ekdapanáō, ek-dap-an-ah'-o): I spend completely — from ἐκ and δαπανάω; to expend (wholly), i.e. (figuratively) exhaust:--spend.
- G2236 — ἥδιστα (hḗdista, hay'-dis-tah): most gladly, pleasantly — neuter plural of the superlative of the same as ἡδέως; with great pleasure:--most (very) gladly.
- G2276 — ἥττον (hḗtton, hate'-ton): lesser, inferior, weaker — neuter of comparative of (slightly) used for that of κακός; worse (as noun); by implication, less (as adverb):--less, worse.
- G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): and, even, also, namely — apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.
- G4056 — περισσοτέρως (perissotérōs, per-is-sot-er'-oce): adverb from περισσότερος; more superabundantly:--more abundant(-ly), X the more earnest, (more) exceedingly, more frequent, much more, the rather.
- G5209 — ὑμᾶς (hymâs, hoo-mas'): accusative case of ὑμεῖς; you (as the objective of a verb or preposition):--ye, you (+ -ward), your (+ own).
- G5216 — ὑμῶν (hymōn, hoo-mone'): genitive case of ὑμεῖς; of (from or concerning) you:--ye, you, your (own, -selves).
- G5228 — ὑπέρ (hypér, hoop-er'): in behalf of, above — a primary preposition; "over", i.e. (with the genitive case) of place, above, beyond, across, or causal, for the sake of, instead, regarding; with the accusative case superior to, more than:--(+ exceeding, abundantly) above, in (on) behalf of, beyond, by, + very chiefest, concerning, exceeding (above, -ly), for, + very highly, more (than), of, over, on the part of, for sake of, in stead, than, to(-ward), very. In the comparative, it retains many of the above applications.
The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:
- G1487 — εἰ (ei, i): if — a primary particle of conditionality; if, whether, that, etc.:--forasmuch as, if, that, (al-)though, whether. Often used in connection or composition with other particles, especially as in εἴγε, εἰ δὲ μή(γε), εἰ καί, εἰ μή, εἰ μή τι, εἴ περ, εἴ πως, εἴ τις, ἐκ. See also ἐάν.
- G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the — the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.
- G5590 — ψυχή (psychḗ, psoo-khay'): the soul, life, self — from ψύχω; breath, i.e. (by implication) spirit, abstractly or concretely (the animal sentient principle only; thus distinguished on the one hand from πνεῦμα, which is the rational and immortal soul; and on the other from ζωή, which is mere vitality, even of plants: these terms thus exactly correspond respectively to the Hebrew נֶפֶשׁ, רוּחַ and חַי):--heart (+ -ily), life, mind, soul, + us, + you.
