Matthew 5:44
| ← Matthew 5:43 [words of Jesus] | Matthew 5:44 (KJV) [words of Jesus] | Matthew 5:45 [words of Jesus] → |
|---|---|---|
Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
|
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
|
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

- G25 — ἀγαπάω (agapáō, ag-ap-ah'-o): I love — perhaps from (much) (or compare עֲגַב); to love (in a social or moral sense):--(be-)love(-ed). Compare φιλέω.
- G1161 — δέ (dé, deh): but, on the other hand, and — a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.:--also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English).
- G1377 — διώκω (diṓkō, dee-o'-ko): I pursue, persecute — a prolonged (and causative) form of a primary verb (to flee; compare the base of δειλός and διάκονος); to pursue (literally or figuratively); by implication, to persecute:--ensue, follow (after), given to, (suffer) persecute(-ion), press forward.
- G1473 — ἐγώ (egṓ, eg-o'): I — a primary pronoun of the first person I (only expressed when emphatic):--I, me. For the other cases and the plural see ἐμέ, ἐμοί, ἐμοῦ, ἡμᾶς, ἡμεῖς, ἡμῖν, ἡμῶν, etc.
- G1908 — ἐπηρεάζω (epēreázō, ep-ay-reh-ad'-zo): I insult, treat wrongfully, molest — from a comparative of ἐπί and (probably) (threats); to insult, slander:--use despitefully, falsely accuse.

- G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): and, even, also, namely — apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.
- G2573 — καλῶς (kalōs, kal-oce'): well, nobly, rightly — adverb from καλός; well (usually morally):--(in a) good (place), honestly, + recover, (full) well.
- G2672 — καταράομαι (kataráomai, kat-ar-ah'-om-ahee): I curse — middle voice from κατάρα; to execrate; by analogy, to doom:--curse.
- G3004 — λέγω (légō, leg'-o): I say, speak — a primary verb; properly, to "lay" forth, i.e. (figuratively) relate (in words (usually of systematic or set discourse; whereas ἔπω and φημί generally refer to an individual expression or speech respectively; while ῥέω is properly to break silence merely, and λαλέω means an extended or random harangue)); by implication, to mean:--ask, bid, boast, call, describe, give out, name, put forth, say(-ing, on), shew, speak, tell, utter.
- G3404 — μισέω (miséō, mis-eh'-o): I hate, detest — from a primary (hatred); to detest (especially to persecute); by extension, to love less:--hate(-ful).

Compare πράσσω.

- G5209 — ὑμᾶς (hymâs, hoo-mas'): accusative case of ὑμεῖς; you (as the objective of a verb or preposition):--ye, you (+ -ward), your (+ own).
- G5213 — ὑμῖν (hymîn, hoo-min'): irregular dative case of ὑμεῖς; to (with or by) you:--ye, you, your(-selves).
- G5216 — ὑμῶν (hymōn, hoo-mone'): genitive case of ὑμεῖς; of (from or concerning) you:--ye, you, your (own, -selves).
- G5228 — ὑπέρ (hypér, hoop-er'): in behalf of, above — a primary preposition; "over", i.e. (with the genitive case) of place, above, beyond, across, or causal, for the sake of, instead, regarding; with the accusative case superior to, more than:--(+ exceeding, abundantly) above, in (on) behalf of, beyond, by, + very chiefest, concerning, exceeding (above, -ly), for, + very highly, more (than), of, over, on the part of, for sake of, in stead, than, to(-ward), very.
