Zephaniah 3:1
| ← Zephaniah 2:15 | Zephaniah 3:1 (KJV) | Zephaniah 3:2 → |
|---|---|---|
This [is] the rejoicing city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I [am], and [there is] none beside me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, [and] wag his hand.
|
Woe to her that is filthy and polluted, to the oppressing city!
|
She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in the LORD; she drew not near to her God.

Strong's References
- H1351 — גָּאַל (gâʼal, gaw-al'): a primitive root, (rather identified with גָּאַל, through the idea of freeing, i.e. repudiating); to soil or (figuratively) desecrate; defile, pollute, stain.
- H1945 — הוֹי (hôwy, hoh'ee): a prolonged form of הוֹ (akin to אוֹי); oh!; ah, alas, ho, O, woe.
- H3238 — יָנָה (yânâh, yaw-naw'): a primitive root; to rage or be violent; by implication, to suppress, to maltreat; destroy, (thrust out by) oppress(-ing, -ion, -or), proud, vex, do violence.
- H4754 — מָרָא (mârâʼ, maw-raw'): a primitive root; to rebel; hence (through the idea of maltreating) to whip, i.e. lash (self with wings, as the ostrich in running); be filthy, lift up self.
- H5892 — עִיר (ʻîyr, eer): or (in the plural) עָר; or עָיַר; (Judges 10:4), from עוּר; a city (a place guarded by waking or a watch) in the widest sense (even of a mere encampment or post); Ai (from margin), city, court (from margin), town.
