Mark 4:31

Mark 4:30 [words of Jesus] Mark 4:31 (KJV) [words of Jesus] Mark 4:32 [words of Jesus]
And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?
[It is] like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:
But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.

Strong's References
  • G1093 — γῆ (gē, ghay): the earth, soil, land — contracted from a primary word; soil; by extension a region, or the solid part or the whole of the terrene globe (including the occupants in each application):--country, earth(-ly), ground, land, world.
  • G1909 — ἐπί (epí, ep-ee'): on, to, against, on the basis of, at — a primary preposition; properly, meaning superimposition (of time, place, order, etc.), as a relation of distribution (with the genitive case), i.e. over, upon, etc.; of rest (with the dative case) at, on, etc.; of direction (with the accusative case) towards, upon, etc.:--about (the times), above, after, against, among, as long as (touching), at, beside, X have charge of, (be-, (where-))fore, in (a place, as much as, the time of, -to), (because) of, (up-)on (behalf of), over, (by, for) the space of, through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), with. In compounds it retains essentially the same import, at, upon, etc. (literally or figuratively).
  • G2076 — ἐστί (estí, es-tee'): third person singular present indicative of εἰμί; he (she or it) is; also (with neuter plural) they are:--are, be(-long), call, X can(-not), come, consisteth, X dure for a while, + follow, X have, (that) is (to say), make, meaneth, X must needs, + profit, + remaineth, + wrestle.
  • G2848 — κόκκος (kókkos, kok'-kos): a kernel, grain — apparently a primary word; a kernel of seed:--corn, grain.
  • G3398 — μικρός (mikrós, mik-ros'): little, small — apparently a primary word; small (in size, quantity, number or (figuratively) dignity):--least, less, little, small.
  • G3739 — ὅς (hós, hos): who, which, what, that — probably a primary word (or perhaps a form of the article ὁ); the relatively (sometimes demonstrative) pronoun, who, which, what, that:--one, (an-, the) other, some, that, what, which, who(-m, -se), etc. See also οὗ.
  • G3752 — ὅταν (hótan, hot'-an): when, whensoever — from ὅτε and ἄν; whenever (implying hypothesis or more or less uncertainty); also causatively (conjunctionally) inasmuch as:--as long (soon) as, that, + till, when(-soever), while.
  • G3956 — πᾶς (pâs, pas): all, the whole, every kind of — including all the forms of declension; apparently a primary word; all, any, every, the whole:--all (manner of, means), alway(-s), any (one), X daily, + ever, every (one, way), as many as, + no(-thing), X thoroughly, whatsoever, whole, whosoever.
  • G4615 — σίναπι (sínapi, sin'-ap-ee): mustard — perhaps from (to hurt, i.e. sting); mustard (the plant):--mustard.
  • G4687 — σπείρω (speírō, spi'-ro): I sow, spread, scatter — probably strengthened from σπάω (through the idea of extending); to scatter, i.e. sow (literally or figuratively):--sow(- er), receive seed.
  • G4690 — σπέρμα (spérma, sper'-mah): seed, offspring — from σπείρω; something sown, i.e. seed (including the male "sperm"); by implication, offspring; specially, a remnant (figuratively, as if kept over for planting):--issue, seed.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the — the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.
  • G5613 — ὡς (hōs, hoce): as, like as, how, while, so that — probably adverb of comparative from ὅς; which how, i.e. in that manner (very variously used, as follows):--about, after (that), (according) as (it had been, it were), as soon (as), even as (like), for, how (greatly), like (as, unto), since, so (that), that, to wit, unto, when(-soever), while, X with all speed.
