Hebrews 7:2

Hebrews 7:1 Hebrews 7:2 (KJV) Hebrews 7:3
For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;
To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;
Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.

Strong's References
  • G11 — Ἀβραάμ (Abraám, ab-rah-am'): Abraham — of Hebrew origin (אַבְרָהָם); Abraham, the Hebrew patriarch:--Abraham. (In Acts 7:16 the text should probably read Jacob.)
  • G575 — ἀπό (apó, apo'): from, away from — a primary particle; "off," i.e. away (from something near), in various senses (of place, time, or relation; literal or figurative):--(X here-)after, ago, at, because of, before, by (the space of), for(-th), from, in, (out) of, off, (up-)on(-ce), since, with. In composition (as a prefix) it usually denotes separation, departure, cessation, completion, reversal, etc.
  • G935 — βασιλεύς (basileús, bas-il-yooce'): a king, ruler, emperor — probably from βάσις (through the notion of a foundation of power); a sovereign (abstractly, relatively, or figuratively):--king.
  • G1161 — δέ (dé, deh): but, on the other hand, and — a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.:--also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English).
  • G1181 — δεκάτη (dekátē, dek-at'-ay): a tenth part, a tithe — feminine of δέκατος; a tenth, i.e. as a percentage or (technically) tithe:--tenth (part), tithe.
  • G1343 — δικαιοσύνη (dikaiosýnē, dik-ah-yos-oo'-nay): justice, justness, righteousness — from δίκαιος; equity (of character or act); specially (Christian) justification:--righteousness.
  • G1515 — εἰρήνη (eirḗnē, i-ray'-nay): peace, peace of mind — probably from a primary verb (to join); peace (literally or figuratively); by implication, prosperity:--one, peace, quietness, rest, + set at one again.
  • G1899 — ἔπειτα (épeita, ep'-i-tah): then, thereafter, afterwards — from ἐπί and εἶτα; thereafter:--after that(-ward), then.
  • G2059 — ἑρμηνεύω (hermēneúō, her-mayn-yoo'-o): I translate, interpret — from a presumed derivative of Ἑρμῆς (as the god of language); to translate:--interpret.
  • G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): and, even, also, namely — apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.
  • G3303 — μέν (mén, men): truly, indeed — a primary particle; properly, indicative of affirmation or concession (in fact); usually followed by a contrasted clause with δέ (this one, the former, etc.):--even, indeed, so, some, truly, verily. Often compounded with other particles in an intensive or asseverative sense.
  • G3307 — μερίζω (merízō, mer-id'-zo): I divide, part, share — from μέρος; to part, i.e. (literally) to apportion, bestow, share, or (figuratively) to disunite, differ:--deal, be difference between, distribute, divide, give participle
  • G3603 — ὅ ἐστι (hó esti, ho es-tee'): from the neuter of ὅς and the third person singular present indicative of εἰμί; which is:--called, which is (make), that is (to say).
  • G3739 — ὅς (hós, hos): who, which, what, that — probably a primary word (or perhaps a form of the article ὁ); the relatively (sometimes demonstrative) pronoun, who, which, what, that:--one, (an-, the) other, some, that, what, which, who(-m, -se), etc. See also οὗ.
  • G3956 — πᾶς (pâs, pas): all, the whole, every kind of — including all the forms of declension; apparently a primary word; all, any, every, the whole:--all (manner of, means), alway(-s), any (one), X daily, + ever, every (one, way), as many as, + no(-thing), X thoroughly, whatsoever, whole, whosoever.
  • G4412 — πρῶτον (prōton, pro'-ton): first, before — neuter of πρῶτος as adverb (with or without ὁ); firstly (in time, place, order, or importance):--before, at the beginning, chiefly (at, at the) first (of all).
  • G4532 — Σαλήμ (Salḗm, sal-ame'): Salem — of Hebrew origin (שָׁלֵם); Salem (i.e. Shalem), a place in Palestine:--Salem.

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:
