James 5:13

James 5:12 James 5:13 (KJV) James 5:14
But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and [your] nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

  • G2553 — κακοπαθέω (kakopathéō, kak-op-ath-eh'-o): I suffer evil, endure affliction — from the same as κακοπάθεια; to undergo hardship:--be afflicted, endure afflictions (hardness), suffer trouble.
  • G4336 — προσεύχομαι (proseúchomai, pros-yoo'-khom-ahee): I pray, pray for — from πρός and εὔχομαι; to pray to God, i.e. supplicate, worship:--pray (X earnestly, for), make prayer.

  • G5567 — ψάλλω (psállō, psal'-lo): I sing psalms — probably strengthened from (to rub or touch the surface; compare ψώχω); to twitch or twang, i.e. to play on a stringed instrument (celebrate the divine worship with music and accompanying odes):--make melody, sing (psalms).
