Jude 1:8[edit | edit source]
| ← Jude 1:7 | Jude 1:8 (KJV) | Jude 1:9 → |
|---|---|---|
Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
|
Likewise also these [filthy] dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.
|
Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

Strong's References[edit | edit source]
- G114 — ἀθετέω (athetéō, ath-et-eh'-o): I annul — from a compound of Α (as a negative particle) and a derivative of τίθημι; to set aside, i.e. (by implication) to disesteem, neutralize or violate:--cast off, despise, disannul, frustrate, bring to nought, reject.
- G987 — βλασφημέω (blasphēméō, blas-fay-meh'-o): I speak evil against, blaspheme — from βλάσφημος; to vilify; specially, to speak impiously:--(speak) blaspheme(-er, -mously, -my), defame, rail on, revile, speak evil.
- G1161 — δέ (dé, deh): but, on the other hand, and — a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.:--also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English).
- G1391 — δόξα (dóxa, dox'-ah): honor, renown, glory splendor — from the base of δοκέω; glory (as very apparent), in a wide application (literal or figurative, objective or subjective):--dignity, glory(-ious), honour, praise, worship.
- G1797 — ἐνυπνιάζομαι (enypniázomai, en-oop-nee-ad'-zom-ahee): I dream — middle voice from ἐνύπνιον; to dream:--dream(-er).
- G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): and, even, also, namely — apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.
- G2963 — κυριότης (kyriótēs, koo-ree-ot'-ace): lordship, domination, dignity — from κύριος; mastery, i.e. (concretely and collectively) rulers:--dominion, government.
- G3303 — μέν (mén, men): truly, indeed — a primary particle; properly, indicative of affirmation or concession (in fact); usually followed by a contrasted clause with δέ (this one, the former, etc.):--even, indeed, so, some, truly, verily. Often compounded with other particles in an intensive or asseverative sense.
- G3305 — μέντοι (méntoi, men'-toy): indeed, yet, however — from μέν and τοί; indeed though, i.e. however:--also, but, howbeit, nevertheless, yet.
- G3392 — μιαίνω (miaínō, me-ah'-ee-no): I stain, pollute, defile — perhaps a primary verb; to sully or taint, i.e. contaminate (ceremonially or morally):--defile.
- G3668 — ὁμοίως (homoíōs, hom-oy'-oce): in like manner — adverb from ὅμοιος; similarly:--likewise, so.
- G3778 — οὗτος (hoûtos, hoo'-tos): this, he, she, it — from the article ὁ and αὐτός; the he (she or it), i.e. this or that (often with article repeated):--he (it was that), hereof, it, she, such as, the same, these, they, this (man, same, woman), which, who.
- G4561 — σάρξ (sárx, sarx): flesh, body — probably from the base of σαρόω; flesh (as stripped of the skin), i.e. (strictly) the meat of an animal (as food), or (by extension) the body (as opposed to the soul (or spirit), or as the symbol of what is external, or as the means of kindred), or (by implication) human nature (with its frailties (physically or morally) and passions), or (specially), a human being (as such):--carnal(-ly, + -ly minded), flesh(-ly).
