|---|---|---|
Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
|
As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
|
But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

- G52 — ἄγνοια (ágnoia, ag'-noy-ah): ignorance — from ἀγνοέω; ignorance (properly, the quality):--ignorance.
- G1722 — ἐν (en, en): in, on, among — a primary preposition denoting (fixed) position (in place, time or state), and (by implication) instrumentality (medially or constructively), i.e. a relation of rest (intermediate between εἰς and ἐκ); "in," at, (up-)on, by, etc.:--about, after, against, + almost, X altogether, among, X as, at, before, between, (here-)by (+ all means), for (… sake of), + give self wholly to, (here-)in(-to, -wardly), X mightily, (because) of, (up-)on, (open-)ly, X outwardly, one, X quickly, X shortly, (speedi-)ly, X that, X there(-in, -on), through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), under, when, where(-with), while, with(-in). Often used in compounds, with substantially the same import; rarely with verbs of motion, and then not to indicate direction, except (elliptically) by a separate (and different) preposition.
- G1939 — ἐπιθυμία (epithymía, ep-ee-thoo-mee'-ah): desire, eagerness for, inordinate desire, lust — from ἐπιθυμέω; a longing (especially for what is forbidden):--concupiscence, desire, lust (after).
- G3361 — μή (mḗ, may): not, lest — a primary particle of qualified negation (whereas οὐ expresses an absolute denial); (adverb) not, (conjunction) lest; also (as an interrogative implying a negative answer (whereas οὐ expects an affirmative one)) whether:--any but (that), X forbear, + God forbid, + lack, lest, neither, never, no (X wise in), none, nor, (can-)not, nothing, that not, un(-taken), without. Often used in compounds in substantially the same relations. See also ἐὰν μή, ἵνα μή, οὐ μή, μῆκος, μηκύνω, μήν, μὴ οὐκ.
- G4386 — πρότερον (próteron, prot'-er-on): formerly, before — neuter of πρότερος as adverb (with or without the article); previously:--before, (at the) first, former.
- G4964 — συσχηματίζω (syschēmatízō, soos-khay-mat-id'-zo): I conform to — from σύν and a derivative of σχῆμα; to fashion alike, i.e. conform to the same pattern (figuratively):--conform to, fashion self according to.
- G5043 — τέκνον (téknon, tek'-non): a child, descendent, inhabitant — from the base of τίκτω; a child (as produced):--child, daughter, son.
- G5216 — ὑμῶν (hymōn, hoo-mone'): genitive case of ὑμεῖς; of (from or concerning) you:--ye, you, your (own, -selves).
- G5218 — ὑπακοή (hypakoḗ, hoop-ak-o-ay'): obedience — from ὑπακούω; attentive hearkening, i.e. (by implication) compliance or submission:--obedience, (make) obedient, obey(-ing).
The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:
- G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the — the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.
- G5613 — ὡς (hōs, hoce): as, like as, how, while, so that — probably adverb of comparative from ὅς; which how, i.e. in that manner (very variously used, as follows):--about, after (that), (according) as (it had been, it were), as soon (as), even as (like), for, how (greatly), like (as, unto), since, so (that), that, to wit, unto, when(-soever), while, X with all speed.
