1 Peter 5:3
| ← 1 Peter 5:2 | 1 Peter 5:3 (KJV) | 1 Peter 5:4 → |
|---|---|---|
Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight [thereof], not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
|
Neither as being lords over [God's] heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.
|
And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.

- G235 — ἀλλά (allá, al-lah'): but, except — neuter plural of ἄλλος; properly, other things, i.e. (adverbially) contrariwise (in many relations):--and, but (even), howbeit, indeed, nay, nevertheless, no, notwithstanding, save, therefore, yea, yet.
- G1096 — γίνομαι (gínomai, ghin'-om-ahee): I come into being, am born — a prolongation and middle voice form of a primary verb; to cause to be ("gen"-erate), i.e. (reflexively) to become (come into being), used with great latitude (literal, figurative, intensive, etc.):--arise, be assembled, be(-come, -fall, -have self), be brought (to pass), (be) come (to pass), continue, be divided, draw, be ended, fall, be finished, follow, be found, be fulfilled, + God forbid, grow, happen, have, be kept, be made, be married, be ordained to be, partake, pass, be performed, be published, require, seem, be showed, X soon as it was, sound, be taken, be turned, use, wax, will, would, be wrought.
- G2634 — κατακυριεύω (katakyrieúō, kat-ak-oo-ree-yoo'-o): I exercise authority over, overpower — from κατά and κυριεύω; to lord against, i.e. control, subjugate:--exercise dominion over (lordship), be lord over, overcome.
- G2819 — κλῆρος (klēros, klay'-ros): a lot, portion — probably from κλάω (through the idea of using bits of wood, etc., for the purpose; a die (for drawing chances); by implication, a portion (as if so secured); by extension, an acquisition (especially a patrimony, figuratively):--heritage, inheritance, lot, part.
- G3366 — μηδέ (mēdé, may-deh'): and not, not even — from μή and δέ; but not, not even; in a continued negation, nor:--neither, nor (yet), (no) not (once, so much as).
- G4168 — ποίμνιον (poímnion, poym'-nee-on): a little flock — neuter of a presumed derivative of ποίμνη; a flock, i.e. (figuratively) group (of believers):--flock.
- G5179 — τύπος (týpos, too'-pos): a figure, model, type — from τύπτω; a die (as struck), i.e. (by implication) a stamp or scar; by analogy, a shape, i.e. a statue, (figuratively) style or resemblance; specially, a sampler ("type"), i.e. a model (for imitation) or instance (for warning):--en-(ex-)ample, fashion, figure, form, manner, pattern, print.
The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:
- G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the — the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.
- G5613 — ὡς (hōs, hoce): as, like as, how, while, so that — probably adverb of comparative from ὅς; which how, i.e. in that manner (very variously used, as follows):--about, after (that), (according) as (it had been, it were), as soon (as), even as (like), for, how (greatly), like (as, unto), since, so (that), that, to wit, unto, when(-soever), while, X with all speed.
