Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.

One of themselves, [even] a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians [are] alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.

- G150 — αἰσχρός (aischrós, ahee-skhros'): base, disgraceful — from the same as αἰσχύνομαι; shameful, i.e. base (specially, venal):--filthy.
- G396 — ἀνατρέπω (anatrépō, an-at-rep'-o): I subvert, overturn, overthrow — from ἀνά and the base of τροπή; to overturn (figuratively):--overthrow, subvert.
- G1163 — δεῖ (deî, die): it is necessary, inevitable — 3rd person singular active present of δέω; also deon deh-on'; neuter active participle of the same; both used impersonally; it is (was, etc.) necessary (as binding):--behoved, be meet, must (needs), (be) need(-ful), ought, should.
