2 Corinthians 4:8

2 Corinthians 4:7 2 Corinthians 4:8 (KJV) 2 Corinthians 4:9
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
[We are] troubled on every side, yet not distressed; [we are] perplexed, but not in despair;
Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;

Strong's References

  • G639 — ἀπορέω (aporéō, ap-or-eh'-o): I am in difficulties, am at my wits end — from a compound of Α (as a negative particle) and the base of πορεύομαι; to have no way out, i.e. be at a loss (mentally):-- (stand in) doubt, be perplexed.
  • G1722 — ἐν (en, en): in, on, among — a primary preposition denoting (fixed) position (in place, time or state), and (by implication) instrumentality (medially or constructively), i.e. a relation of rest (intermediate between εἰς and ἐκ); "in," at, (up-)on, by, etc.:--about, after, against, + almost, X altogether, among, X as, at, before, between, (here-)by (+ all means), for (… sake of), + give self wholly to, (here-)in(-to, -wardly), X mightily, (because) of, (up-)on, (open-)ly, X outwardly, one, X quickly, X shortly, (speedi-)ly, X that, X there(-in, -on), through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), under, when, where(-with), while, with(-in). Often used in compounds, with substantially the same import; rarely with verbs of motion, and then not to indicate direction, except (elliptically) by a separate (and different) preposition.
  • G1820 — ἐξαπορέομαι (exaporéomai, ex-ap-or-eh'-om-ahee): I am utterly without resource, am in despair — middle voice from ἐκ and ἀπορέω; to be utterly at a loss, i.e. despond:--(in) despair.
  • G2346 — θλίβω (thlíbō, thlee'-bo): I make narrow, persecute, press hard — akin to the base of τρίβος; to crowd (literally or figuratively):--afflict, narrow, throng, suffer tribulation, trouble.
  • G3756 — οὐ (ou, oo): no, not — a primary word; the absolute negative (compare μή) adverb; no or not:--+ long, nay, neither, never, no (X man), none, (can-)not, + nothing, + special, un(-worthy), when, + without, + yet but. See also οὐ μή, μῆκος.
  • G3956 — πᾶς (pâs, pas): all, the whole, every kind of — including all the forms of declension; apparently a primary word; all, any, every, the whole:--all (manner of, means), alway(-s), any (one), X daily, + ever, every (one, way), as many as, + no(-thing), X thoroughly, whatsoever, whole, whosoever.
  • G4729 — στενοχωρέω (stenochōréō, sten-okh-o-reh'-o): I press upon, cramp, restrain — from the same as στενοχωρία; to hem in closely, i.e. (figuratively) cramp:--distress, straiten.
