2 Corinthians 12:20
| ← 2 Corinthians 12:19 | 2 Corinthians 12:20 (KJV) | 2 Corinthians 12:21 → |
|---|---|---|
Again, think ye that we excuse ourselves unto you? we speak before God in Christ: but [we do] all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying.
|
For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and [that] I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest [there be] debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults:
|
[And] lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and [that] I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.

akatastasiai | G181 | N-NPF | tumults |
- G181 — ἀκαταστασία (akatastasía, ak-at-as-tah-see'-ah): disturbance, upheaval, revolution — from ἀκατάστατος; instability, i.e. disorder:--commotion, confusion, tumult.
- G1063 — γάρ (gár, gar): for — a primary particle; properly, assigning a reason (used in argument, explanation or intensification; often with other particles):--and, as, because (that), but, even, for, indeed, no doubt, seeing, then, therefore, verily, what, why, yet.
- G2052 — ἐριθεία (eritheía, er-ith-i'-ah): ambition, rivalry — perhaps as the same as ἐρεθίζω; properly, intrigue, i.e. (by implication) faction:--contention(-ious), strife.
- G2054 — ἔρις (éris, er'-is): contention, strife — of uncertain affinity; a quarrel, i.e. (by implication) wrangling:--contention, debate, strife, variance.
- G2064 — ἔρχομαι (érchomai, er'-khom-ahee): I come, go — middle voice of a primary verb (used only in the present and imperfect tenses, the others being supplied by a kindred (middle voice) , or (active) , which do not otherwise occur); to come or go (in a great variety of applications, literally and figuratively):--accompany, appear, bring, come, enter, fall out, go, grow, X light, X next, pass, resort, be set.
- G2147 — εὑρίσκω (heurískō, hyoo-ris'-ko): I find — a prolonged form of a primary , which (together with another cognate form) is used for it in all the tenses except the present and imperfect; to find (literally or figuratively):--find, get, obtain, perceive, see.
- G2205 — ζῆλος (zēlos, dzay'-los): eagerness, zeal, rivalry — from ζέω; properly, heat, i.e. (figuratively) "zeal" (in a favorable sense, ardor; in an unfavorable one, jealousy, as of a husband (figuratively, of God), or an enemy, malice):--emulation, envy(-ing), fervent mind, indignation, jealousy, zeal.
- G2309 — θέλω (thélō, thel'-o): I will, wish, desire — apparently strengthened from the alternate form of αἱρέομαι; to determine (as an active option from subjective impulse; whereas βούλομαι properly denotes rather a passive acquiescence in objective considerations), i.e. choose or prefer (literally or figuratively); by implication, to wish, i.e. be inclined to (sometimes adverbially, gladly); impersonally for the future tense, to be about to; by Hebraism, to delight in:--desire, be disposed (forward), intend, list, love, mean, please, have rather, (be) will (have, -ling, - ling(-ly)).
- G2372 — θυμός (thymós, thoo-mos'): an outburst of passion, wrath — from θύω; passion (as if breathing hard):--fierceness, indignation, wrath. Compare ψυχή.
- G2504 — κἀγώ (kagṓ, kag-o'): I also, I too — from καί and ἐγώ; so also the dative case , and accusative case and (or also, even, etc.) I, (to) me:--(and, even, even so, so) I (also, in like wise), both me, me also.
- G2636 — καταλαλία (katalalía, kat-al-al-ee'-ah): evil-speaking, backbiting, detraction — from κατάλαλος; defamation:--backbiting, evil speaking.
- G3381 — μήπως (mḗpōs, may'-pos): lest in any way, lest perhaps — from μή and -πώς; lest somehow:--lest (by any means, by some means, haply, perhaps).
- G3634 — οἷος (hoîos, hoy'-os): of what kind, such as — probably akin to ὁ, ὅς, and ὅσος; such or what sort of (as a correlation or exclamation); especially the neuter (adverbially) with negative, not so:--so (as), such as, what (manner of), which.
- G3756 — οὐ (ou, oo): no, not — a primary word; the absolute negative (compare μή) adverb; no or not:--+ long, nay, neither, never, no (X man), none, (can-)not, + nothing, + special, un(-worthy), when, + without, + yet but. See also οὐ μή, μῆκος.
- G4458 — -πώς (-pṓs, poce): adverb from the base of πού; an enclitic particle of indefiniteness of manner; somehow or anyhow; used only in composition:--haply, by any (some) means, perhaps. See εἴ πως, μήπως. Compare πῶς.
- G5209 — ὑμᾶς (hymâs, hoo-mas'): accusative case of ὑμεῖς; you (as the objective of a verb or preposition):--ye, you (+ -ward), your (+ own).
- G5213 — ὑμῖν (hymîn, hoo-min'): irregular dative case of ὑμεῖς; to (with or by) you:--ye, you, your(-selves).
- G5399 — φοβέω (phobéō, fob-eh'-o): I fear, am terrified — from φόβος; to frighten, i.e. (passively) to be alarmed; by analogy, to be in awe of, i.e. revere:--be (+ sore) afraid, fear (exceedingly), reverence.
- G5450 — φυσίωσις (physíōsis, foo-see'-o-sis): a puffing up, pride — from φυσιόω; inflation, i.e. (figuratively) haughtiness:--swelling.
- G5587 — ψιθυρισμός (psithyrismós, psith-oo-ris-mos'): a whispering, secret slandering — from a derivative of (a whisper; by implication, a slander; probably akin to ψεύδομαι); whispering, i.e. secret detraction:--whispering.
The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:
- G3361 — μή (mḗ, may): not, lest — a primary particle of qualified negation (whereas οὐ expresses an absolute denial); (adverb) not, (conjunction) lest; also (as an interrogative implying a negative answer (whereas οὐ expects an affirmative one)) whether:--any but (that), X forbear, + God forbid, + lack, lest, neither, never, no (X wise in), none, nor, (can-)not, nothing, that not, un(-taken), without. Often used in compounds in substantially the same relations. See also ἐὰν μή, ἵνα μή, οὐ μή, μῆκος, μηκύνω, μήν, μὴ οὐκ.
