Hebrews 9:10
| ← Hebrews 9:9 | Hebrews 9:10 (KJV) | Hebrews 9:11 → |
|---|---|---|
Which [was] a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;
|
[Which stood] only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed [on them] until the time of reformation.
|
But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;

- G909 — βαπτισμός (baptismós, bap-tis-mos'): dipping, washing — from βαπτίζω; ablution (ceremonial or Christian):--baptism, washing.
- G1033 — βρῶμα (brōma, bro'-mah): food of any kind — from the base of βιβρώσκω; food (literally or figuratively), especially (ceremonially) articles allowed or forbidden by the Jewish law:--meat, victuals.
- G1313 — διάφορος (diáphoros, dee-af'-or-os): differing, different, excellent — from διαφέρω; varying; also surpassing:--differing, divers, more excellent.
- G1345 — δικαίωμα (dikaíōma, dik-ah'-yo-mah): a thing pronounced to be just — from δικαιόω; an equitable deed; by implication, a statute or decision:--judgment, justification, ordinance, righteousness.
- G1357 — διόρθωσις (diórthōsis, dee-or'-tho-sis): improvement, reformation — from a compound of διά and a derivative of ὀρθός, meaning to straighten thoroughly; rectification, i.e. (specially) the Messianic restauration:--reformation.
- G1909 — ἐπί (epí, ep-ee'): on, to, against, on the basis of, at — a primary preposition; properly, meaning superimposition (of time, place, order, etc.), as a relation of distribution (with the genitive case), i.e. over, upon, etc.; of rest (with the dative case) at, on, etc.; of direction (with the accusative case) towards, upon, etc.:--about (the times), above, after, against, among, as long as (touching), at, beside, X have charge of, (be-, (where-))fore, in (a place, as much as, the time of, -to), (because) of, (up-)on (behalf of), over, (by, for) the space of, through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), with. In compounds it retains essentially the same import, at, upon, etc. (literally or figuratively).
- G1945 — ἐπίκειμαι (epíkeimai, ep-ik'-i-mahee): I lie upon, am insistent — from ἐπί and κεῖμαι; to rest upon (literally or figuratively):--impose, be instant, (be) laid (there-, up-)on, (when) lay (on), lie (on), press upon.
- G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): and, even, also, namely — apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.
- G2540 — καιρός (kairós, kahee-ros'): fitting season, opportunity, time — of uncertain affinity; an occasion, i.e. set or proper time:--X always, opportunity, (convenient, due) season, (due, short, while) time, a while. Compare χρόνος.
- G3360 — μέχρι (méchri, mekh'-ree): as far as, until — from μῆκος; as far as, i.e. up to a certain point (as a preposition, of extent (denoting the terminus, whereas ἄχρι refers especially to the space of time or place intervening) or conjunction):--till, (un-)to, until.
- G3440 — μόνον (mónon, mon'-on): alone, but, only — neuter of μόνος as adverb; merely:--alone, but, only.
- G4188 — πόμα (póma, pom'-ah): drink — from the alternate of πίνω; a beverage:--drink.
- G4561 — σάρξ (sárx, sarx): flesh, body — probably from the base of σαρόω; flesh (as stripped of the skin), i.e. (strictly) the meat of an animal (as food), or (by extension) the body (as opposed to the soul (or spirit), or as the symbol of what is external, or as the means of kindred), or (by implication) human nature (with its frailties (physically or morally) and passions), or (specially), a human being (as such):--carnal(-ly, + -ly minded), flesh(-ly).
