2 Corinthians 7:10
| ← 2 Corinthians 7:9 | 2 Corinthians 7:10 (KJV) | 2 Corinthians 7:11 → |
|---|---|---|
Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.
|
For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
|
For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, [what] clearing of yourselves, yea, [what] indignation, yea, [what] fear, yea, [what] vehement desire, yea, [what] zeal, yea, [what] revenge! In all [things] ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

- G278 — ἀμεταμέλητος (ametamélētos, am-et-am-el'-ay-tos): not to be repented of — from Α (as a negative particle) and a presumed derivative of μεταμέλλομαι; irrevocable:--without repentance, not to be repented of.
- G1063 — γάρ (gár, gar): for — a primary particle; properly, assigning a reason (used in argument, explanation or intensification; often with other particles):--and, as, because (that), but, even, for, indeed, no doubt, seeing, then, therefore, verily, what, why, yet.
- G1161 — δέ (dé, deh): but, on the other hand, and — a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.:--also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English).
- G1519 — εἰς (eis, ice): into, in, among, till, for — a primary preposition; to or into (indicating the point reached or entered), of place, time, or (figuratively) purpose (result, etc.); also in adverbial phrases:--(abundant-)ly, against, among, as, at, (back-)ward, before, by, concerning, + continual, + far more exceeding, for (intent, purpose), fore, + forth, in (among, at, unto, -so much that, -to), to the intent that, + of one mind, + never, of, (up-)on, + perish, + set at one again, (so) that, therefore(-unto), throughout, til, to (be, the end, -ward), (here-)until(-to), …ward, (where-)fore, with. Often used in composition with the same general import, but only with verbs (etc.) expressing motion (literally or figuratively).
- G2288 — θάνατος (thánatos, than'-at-os): death — from θνήσκω; (properly, an adjective used as a noun) death (literally or figuratively):--X deadly, (be…) death.
- G2316 — θεός (theós, theh'-os): God, a god — of uncertain affinity; a deity, especially (with ὁ) the supreme Divinity; figuratively, a magistrate; by Hebraism, very:--X exceeding, God, god(-ly, -ward).
- G2596 — κατά (katá, kat-ah'): down from, against, according to, throughout, during — a primary particle; (prepositionally) down (in place or time), in varied relations (according to the case (genitive, dative or accusative) with which it is joined):--about, according as (to), after, against, (when they were) X alone, among, and, X apart, (even, like) as (concerning, pertaining to touching), X aside, at, before, beyond, by, to the charge of, (charita-)bly, concerning, + covered, (dai-)ly, down, every, (+ far more) exceeding, X more excellent, for, from … to, godly, in(-asmuch, divers, every, -to, respect of), … by, after the manner of, + by any means, beyond (out of) measure, X mightily, more, X natural, of (up-)on (X part), out (of every), over against, (+ your) X own, + particularly, so, through(-oughout, -oughout every), thus, (un-)to(-gether, -ward), X uttermost, where(-by), with. In composition it retains many of these applications, and frequently denotes opposition, distribution, or intensity.
- G2716 — κατεργάζομαι (katergázomai, kat-er-gad'-zom-ahee): I work out, produce, accomplish — from κατά and ἐργάζομαι; to work fully, i.e. accomplish; by implication, to finish, fashion:--cause, to (deed), perform, work (out).
- G2889 — κόσμος (kósmos, kos'-mos): the world, universe — probably from the base of κομίζω; orderly arrangement, i.e. decoration; by implication, the world (in a wide or narrow sense, including its inhabitants, literally or figuratively (morally)):--adorning, world.
- G3077 — λύπη (lýpē, loo'-pay): pain, grief — apparently a primary word; sadness:--grief, grievous, + grudgingly, heaviness, sorrow.
- G3341 — μετάνοια (metánoia, met-an'-oy-ah): repentance, a change of mind — from μετανοέω; (subjectively) compunction (for guilt, including reformation); by implication, reversal (of (another's) decision):--repentance.
- G4991 — σωτηρία (sōtēría, so-tay-ree'-ah): deliverance, salvation — feminine of a derivative of σωτήρ as (properly, abstract) noun; rescue or safety (physically or morally):--deliver, health, salvation, save, saving.
The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:
- G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the — the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.
