Luke 16:25
| ← Luke 16:24 [words of Jesus] | Luke 16:25 (KJV) [words of Jesus] | Luke 16:26 [words of Jesus] → |
|---|---|---|
And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
|
But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
|
And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that [would come] from thence.

- G11 — Ἀβραάμ (Abraám, ab-rah-am'): Abraham — of Hebrew origin (אַבְרָהָם); Abraham, the Hebrew patriarch:--Abraham. (In Acts 7:16 the text should probably read Jacob.)
- G18 — ἀγαθός (agathós, ag-ath-os'): good — a primary word; "good" (in any sense, often as noun):--benefit, good(-s, things), well. Compare καλός.
- G618 — ἀπολαμβάνω (apolambánō, ap-ol-am-ban'-o): I get back, receive back — from ἀπό and λαμβάνω; to receive (specially, in full, or as a host); also to take aside:--receive, take.
- G1161 — δέ (dé, deh): but, on the other hand, and — a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.:--also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English).
- G1722 — ἐν (en, en): in, on, among — a primary preposition denoting (fixed) position (in place, time or state), and (by implication) instrumentality (medially or constructively), i.e. a relation of rest (intermediate between εἰς and ἐκ); "in," at, (up-)on, by, etc.:--about, after, against, + almost, X altogether, among, X as, at, before, between, (here-)by (+ all means), for (… sake of), + give self wholly to, (here-)in(-to, -wardly), X mightily, (because) of, (up-)on, (open-)ly, X outwardly, one, X quickly, X shortly, (speedi-)ly, X that, X there(-in, -on), through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), under, when, where(-with), while, with(-in). Often used in compounds, with substantially the same import; rarely with verbs of motion, and then not to indicate direction, except (elliptically) by a separate (and different) preposition.
- G2036 — ἔπω (épō, ep'-o): a primary verb (used only in the definite past tense, the others being borrowed from ἐρέω, ῥέω, and φημί); to speak or say (by word or writing):--answer, bid, bring word, call, command, grant, say (on), speak, tell. Compare λέγω.
- G2222 — ζωή (zōḗ, dzo-ay'): life — from ζάω; life (literally or figuratively):--life(-time). Compare ψυχή.
- G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): and, even, also, namely — apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.
- G2556 — κακός (kakós, kak-os'): bad, evil — apparently a primary word; worthless (intrinsically, such; whereas πονηρός properly refers to effects), i.e. (subjectively) depraved, or (objectively) injurious:--bad, evil, harm, ill, noisome, wicked.
- G2976 — Λάζαρος (Lázaros, lad'-zar-os): Lazarus, Eliezer — probably of Hebrew origin (אֶלְעָזָר); Lazarus (i.e. Elazar), the name of two Israelites (one imaginary):--Lazarus.
- G3415 — μνάομαι (mnáomai, mnah'-om-ahee): I remember, recollect — middle voice of a derivative of μένω or perhaps of the base of μασσάομαι (through the idea of fixture in the mind or of mental grasp); to bear in mind, i.e. recollect; by implication, to reward or punish:--be mindful, remember, come (have) in remembrance. Compare μιμνήσκω.
- G3568 — νῦν (nŷn, noon): now, already, at present — a primary particle of present time; "now" (as adverb of date, a transition or emphasis); also as noun or adjective present or immediate:--henceforth, + hereafter, of late, soon, present, this (time). See also τανῦν, νυνί.
- G3592 — ὅδε (hóde, hod'-eh): this here, this — from ὁ and δέ; the same, i.e. this or that one (plural these or those); often used as a personal pronoun:--he, she, such, these, thus.
- G3600 — ὀδυνάω (odynáō, od-oo-nah'-o): I torment, pain — from ὀδύνη; to grieve:--sorrow, torment.

- G3754 — ὅτι (hóti, hot'-ee): that, since, because — neuter of ὅστις as conjunction; demonstrative, that (sometimes redundant); causative, because:--as concerning that, as though, because (that), for (that), how (that), (in) that, though, why.
- G3870 — παρακαλέω (parakaléō, par-ak-al-eh'-o): I summon, entreat, admonish, comfort — from παρά and καλέω; to call near, i.e. invite, invoke (by imploration, hortation or consolation):--beseech, call for, (be of good) comfort, desire, (give) exhort(-ation), intreat, pray.
- G4675 — σοῦ (soû, soo): genitive case of σύ; of thee, thy:--X home, thee, thine (own), thou, thy.
