Hebrews 11:36
| ← Hebrews 11:35 | Hebrews 11:36 (KJV) | Hebrews 11:37 → |
|---|---|---|
Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:
|
And others had trial of [cruel] mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:
|
They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;

- G1161 — δέ (dé, deh): but, on the other hand, and — a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.:--also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English).
- G1199 — δεσμόν (desmón, des-mon'): a bond, chain — neuter and masculine respectively from δέω; a band, i.e. ligament (of the body) or shackle (of a prisoner); figuratively, an impediment or disability:--band, bond, chain, string.
- G1701 — ἐμπαιγμός (empaigmós, emp-aheeg-mos'): mockery — from ἐμπαίζω; derision:--mocking.
- G2087 — ἕτερος (héteros, het'-er-os): another, different — of uncertain affinity; (an-, the) other or different:--altered, else, next (day), one, (an-)other, some, strange.
- G2089 — ἔτι (éti, et'-ee): still, yet, even now — perhaps akin to ἔτος; "yet," still (of time or degree):--after that, also, ever, (any) further, (t-)henceforth (more), hereafter, (any) longer, (any) more(-one), now, still, yet.
- G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): and, even, also, namely — apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.
- G2983 — λαμβάνω (lambánō, lam-ban'-o): I receive, take — a prolonged form of a primary verb, which is use only as an alternate in certain tenses; to take (in very many applications, literally and figuratively (properly objective or active, to get hold of; whereas δέχομαι is rather subjective or passive, to have offered to one; while αἱρέομαι is more violent, to seize or remove)):--accept, + be amazed, assay, attain, bring, X when I call, catch, come on (X unto), + forget, have, hold, obtain, receive (X after), take (away, up).
- G3148 — μάστιξ (mástix, mas'-tix): a scourge, lash, sufferings — probably from the base of μασσάομαι (through the idea of contact); a whip (literally, the Roman flagellum for criminals; figuratively, a disease):--plague, scourging.
- G3984 — πεῖρα (peîra, pi'-rah): a trial, experiment — from the base of πέραν (through the idea of piercing); a test, i.e. attempt, experience:--assaying, trial.
- G5438 — φυλακή (phylakḗ, foo-lak-ay'): a watching, guard, prison, imprisonment — from φυλάσσω; a guarding or (concretely, guard), the act, the person; figuratively, the place, the condition, or (specially), the time (as a division of day or night), literally or figuratively:--cage, hold, (im-)prison(-ment), ward, watch.
