1 Peter 2:24
| ← 1 Peter 2:23 | 1 Peter 2:24 (KJV) | 1 Peter 2:25 → |
|---|---|---|
Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed [himself] to him that judgeth righteously:
|
Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
|
For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

- G266 — ἁμαρτία (hamartía, ham-ar-tee'-ah): a sin — from ἁμαρτάνω; a sin (properly abstract):--offence, sin(-ful).
- G399 — ἀναφέρω (anaphérō, an-af-er'-o): I carry up, lead up, offer up — from ἀνά and φέρω; to take up (literally or figuratively):--bear, bring (carry, lead) up, offer (up).
- G581 — ἀπογενόμενος (apogenómenos, ap-og-en-om'-en-os): I go out of being, cease to be, die — past participle of a compound of ἀπό and γίνομαι; absent, i.e. deceased (figuratively, renounced):--being dead.
- G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): he, she, it, they, them, same — from the particle (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons:--her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. Compare αὑτοῦ.
- G1343 — δικαιοσύνη (dikaiosýnē, dik-ah-yos-oo'-nay): justice, justness, righteousness — from δίκαιος; equity (of character or act); specially (Christian) justification:--righteousness.
- G1722 — ἐν (en, en): in, on, among — a primary preposition denoting (fixed) position (in place, time or state), and (by implication) instrumentality (medially or constructively), i.e. a relation of rest (intermediate between εἰς and ἐκ); "in," at, (up-)on, by, etc.:--about, after, against, + almost, X altogether, among, X as, at, before, between, (here-)by (+ all means), for (… sake of), + give self wholly to, (here-)in(-to, -wardly), X mightily, (because) of, (up-)on, (open-)ly, X outwardly, one, X quickly, X shortly, (speedi-)ly, X that, X there(-in, -on), through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), under, when, where(-with), while, with(-in). Often used in compounds, with substantially the same import; rarely with verbs of motion, and then not to indicate direction, except (elliptically) by a separate (and different) preposition.
- G1909 — ἐπί (epí, ep-ee'): on, to, against, on the basis of, at — a primary preposition; properly, meaning superimposition (of time, place, order, etc.), as a relation of distribution (with the genitive case), i.e. over, upon, etc.; of rest (with the dative case) at, on, etc.; of direction (with the accusative case) towards, upon, etc.:--about (the times), above, after, against, among, as long as (touching), at, beside, X have charge of, (be-, (where-))fore, in (a place, as much as, the time of, -to), (because) of, (up-)on (behalf of), over, (by, for) the space of, through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), with. In compounds it retains essentially the same import, at, upon, etc. (literally or figuratively).
- G2198 — ζάω (záō, dzah'-o): I live — a primary verb; to live (literally or figuratively):--life(-time), (a-)live(-ly), quick.
- G2257 — ἡμῶν (hēmōn, hay-mone'): genitive case plural of ἐγώ; of (or from) us:--our (company), us, we.
- G2390 — ἰάομαι (iáomai, ee-ah'-om-ahee): I heal — middle voice of apparently a primary verb; to cure (literally or figuratively):--heal, make whole.
- G2443 — ἵνα (hína, hin'-ah): in order that, so that — probably from the same as the former part of ἑαυτοῦ (through the demonstrative idea; compare ὁ); in order that (denoting the purpose or the result):--albeit, because, to the intent (that), lest, so as, (so) that, (for) to. Compare ἵνα μή.
- G3468 — μώλωψ (mṓlōps, mo'-lopes): a bruise, stripe — from ("moil"; probably akin to the base of μόλις) and probably (the face; from ὀπτάνομαι); a mole ("black eye") or blow-mark:--stripe.
- G3586 — ξύλον (xýlon, xoo'-lon): a staff, cross, anything made of wood — from another form of the base of ξέστης; timber (as fuel or material); by implication, a stick, club or tree or other wooden article or substance:--staff, stocks, tree, wood.
- G3739 — ὅς (hós, hos): who, which, what, that — probably a primary word (or perhaps a form of the article ὁ); the relatively (sometimes demonstrative) pronoun, who, which, what, that:--one, (an-, the) other, some, that, what, which, who(-m, -se), etc. See also οὗ.
- G4983 — σῶμα (sōma, so'-mah): body, flesh — from σώζω; the body (as a sound whole), used in a very wide application, literally or figuratively:--bodily, body, slave.
The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:
- G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the — the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.
